LETTER
Back to School with Gus
Hi Asparagus fans,
It’s back-to school season, and Gus is raring to go. After an exciting but exhausting summer of fundraising (over $16,600 Canadian raised!), we here in the Asparagus patch are ready for some soothing routine. To that end, we’ve been publishing regularly since the end of the crowdfunding campaign, and a collection of great articles are in the works for the fall.
Anyone in that back-to-school frame of mind will want to check out this week’s Black Sheep Parenting column, “Thinking Outside the PlanetBox.” And if you fell behind on your Gus reading in recent weeks, you’ll want to dig into our end-of-summer reading list:
- Jessie Szalay’s moving essay: “Does Climate Change Mean I Can’t Have Kids?”
- Q&As with veteran activist Tzeporah Berman, and the founder of Vancouver’s signature eco-arts event, the Vines Festival
- Explorations of two business models that could help repair our broken food system: mobile markets and co-ops
- An Environmentalist from Hell column about why “Straw Bans Suck!”
In the next few weeks, stay tuned for articles about energy-efficient cooking, open-source seeds, and music as activism. Contributors to the crowd-funding campaign should keep eyes peeled for communications about how to get your rewards.
And if you missed the campaign, worry not! Opportunities to purchase eco-minded swag, subscribe to the print magazine, and support our operations financially will be unveiled later this fall.
See you round the patch,
Jessie Johnston
