RERUTN: IRAN AFTER ISLAMIC REVOLUTION
This year is the 40th year after success on the Islamic revolution in Iran. A throwback to that time, civilian fought for freedom, better life, not controlled by western countries. But after 40 years, all of it does not seem had been changed, but stay in the same position. For this situation, the U.S is the main contributor, use the sanction as a weapon. The U.S also encourages its allies not to purchase oil which is the main income of Iran. This move almost made youth or who is not employed start to against the government. There are 3 main problems Iran is facing right now, If the Iranian government does not solve these problems, they may not see the uprising sun after 40 years ever again.
1st: Religious Authoritarian dictatorship
This kind of dictatorship was formed after the Islamic revolution. 40 years ago, people followed Ruhollah Khomeini to overthrow last Shah regime because, at that time, people did not have freedom and cannot earn enough money to raise their family. People want democracy but not the dictatorship, even if now Iranian civilian have right to vote for their president, but their ‘’President’’ does not have actual power which is owned by Supreme leader. Iranian presidents can only make a decision with the supreme leader’s approval. This kind political system shows there is no democracy in Iran, all the decisions are made by the supreme leader.
One other thing that would really hurt Iran inside of this dictatorship is the Cult of personality. Of courseKhomeini played a very important role in the modern history of Iran, but the government made people worship him and another supreme leader and also made the law that if someone uses bad language against or hurt supreme leader is forbidden. When a government use Cult of personality, this country does not have law anymore because supreme is the greatest, what he said is correct, people should follow him, and this kind of ideology would become populism , when a country does not exist law , human right cannot be protected , and a new revolution would arrive soon or later.
Most counties which use Cult of personality do not have a good end. such as USSR, China, and North Korea. The history of these countries shows it would only work when the economy is good when the economy starts to get worse, people would not believe their leader is able to bring them a good life, and the regime collapsed or people had a miserable life. The Iranian government should learn from history, to let democracy happen in Iran.
2nd: Economy problem
The U.S plays a huge role to influence Iran’s economy. After the last Shah regime was overthrown, two friends turned to the enemy. And the U.S started to use economic sanctions as a major weapon against Iran. As the main oil producer in the world, the U.S and it is allied do not purchase oil from Iran, and it really damages Iran’s fragile economy. When civilians cannot earn enough money to keep their lives going, they started to ask the government to make the economy better, and people started to lose their faith in their county. But the current Iranian government seems like do not want to have a good relationship with western countries, therefore it starts to move people’s attention to another place: show how strong Iran is and start to send their Revolutionary guard to other Shia countries in the Middle East and trained them to make Iran more influential in this region. Although this move could not make the economy better, make people become patriots, and people should scarify to their homeland, Iran.
The relationship between the U.S and Iran did not get better after Trump got elected, but even worse. Last year trump even starts a new economic sanction against this regime, this makes the uprising economy status in Iran going down. The U.S always think Iran is developing a nuclear weapon, and always use it as a reason to convince its allied to against Iran. But what the U.S want is when Iran is defeating by the economy and U.S can be its allies but not enemy, therefore the middle east would be more peaceful if Iran would not keep sending their military troops to train and start a revolution to build another Shia government.
3rd: Being controlled by western countries.
One of the reasons the Shah regime was overthrown is the king was too close to western countries and gave foreigner to many privileges, so people started to question the legitimacy of this regime, and think Iran should be an independent country, develop themselves and make their own decision. But after all, now the world is the global village, every country is influencing each other, every decision would lead to different consequences. There is no way Iran cannot be influenced by other countries, especially the U.S is the most powerful country in the world. Every move is to maintain its biggest interest.
Recently U.S president made a huge move which makes their relationship with Iran more intense, Trump put Revolutionary Guard on the list of the terrorist group, this move let U.S can attack Iranian force legally, and trying to make Iran obey what the U.S want it to do. Maybe Iran should not always turn against western countries but negotiating with them. Even Kim Jong-un is able to meet Trump to discuss how to fix the relationship with the U.S, why would not Iran do?
Now, this world is different from before, countries influence each other, countries cannot survive by themselves. Every country needs to care about international issues because it would be related to their own nation. With a bad relationship with other countries, Iran makes its own people turn against them, but someday this move would not end well. Iran should find the way not to let the extreme become the whole thing otherwise this country would become a hating country which does not accept any other who is different or does not respect them.
40 years ago, Iranian fought for their freedom and a better life, although they did get a great success on the Islamic revolution, those Iranian fought for are disappearing or turning back to the same status. Iran should not be hostile to any other western country just because they are richer, more influence, and used to colonize this country, Iran should tolerant these countries and prove their spirit of Iran and how proud it is to be an Iranian but not use military way to prove themselves, or the fighting between would not be end and bring no peace to this country.
