Crop Documents and Images Online

Why do we need a file cropping tool?

Everything is quite simple. First, it can be about saving space and paper in the document by cutting off excess ashes. Second: imagine a situation where you need to send only one fragment from the entire page. You can crop extra elements using the Crop application by Aspose.PDF Free Web Applications.

The application is quite simple and intuitive. So, it’s easy to use it without additional help, even for those who use the computer as a typewriter with periodic access to the Internet.

To use the application, you need to go to the application page: Crop by Aspose.PDF Free Web Application and select the file format that should be cropped. This application works with images and PDF (these are the file formats that most often require cropping).

If everything is clear with the PDF format (and if it is not clear, then go to the link “PDF for people who work with texts”), then some positions should be clarified with the images, because it will be very difficult for an untrained user to understand the formats listed in the application.

In general, we are mostly talking about bitmap formats.

The most common are:

- lossless compression: BMP, FPX, GIF, ICO, ILBM, JBIG, PCX, PNG, PNM, PSD, RAW, TGA, WBMP, XCF;

- lossy compression: EXR, ICER, JBIG2, JPEG (JP2, JPFG-LS), JPEG XR (HD Photo), PGF, TIFF, WebP;

- animated: APNG, GIF, MNG.

Let’s consider some of them:

JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) is one of the popular graphic formats used for storing photos and similar images. Files containing JPEG data usually have the file extension .jpeg, .jfif, .jpg, JPG, or JPE. However, .jpg is the most popular across all platforms. JPEG is widely used. Compression is based on averaging the color of neighboring pixels and discarding high-frequency components in the spatial spectrum of the image fragment. When examining the highly compressed image in detail, blurring of sharp boundaries and a characteristic moiré near them are noticeable.

JPEG 2000 (or jp2) is a graphics format that uses a different type of compression than JPEG. As a result of this compression, the image is smoother and sharper, and the file size is smaller compared to JPEG at the same quality. Extensions: jp2, j2k, .jpf, .jpx, jpm, .wdp.

PNG (Portable Network Graphics) is a popular raster format for saving graphic information that uses lossless compression. PNG was created as a free format to replace GIF. Widely used on the Internet.

TIFF (English Tagged Image Pile Format) is a format for storing bitmap graphic images. TIFF has become a popular format for storing images with high color depth. It is used for scanning, faxing, text recognition, printing, and is widely supported by graphic applications. The format originally supported lossless compression but was later expanded to support lossy compression in the JPEG format. TIFF allows you to achieve a large range of color depth changes, has different color spaces, different compression settings (both lossy and lossless), etc. TIFF files have the extension .tif or .tiff.

WebP is a lossy and lossless image compression format offered by Google Inc. In 2010.

TGA (Truevision TSL) is a bitmap graphics format created by Truevision Inc. For graphics adapters of its own production in 1984. Later it became popular on a variety of platforms, especially in the field of video processing and animation.

BMP (Bitmap) is a bitmap format or DIB (device independent bitmap) is a bitmap image file format, where the image is stored as a two-dimensional array of pixels, each pixel having its own color. Stores single and multi-color (RGB) artwork in Pixel form.

APNG (Animated Portable Network Graphics) is an image format built on the PNG format, provides the ability to store animation like that used in the GIF format, as well as transparency colors (8-bit transparency as opposed to one transparent color in a GIF image).

EMF (Enhanced Metafile) is a large metadata file commonly used in graphic design and typography. In terms of memory for image data, an EMF file outperforms its counterparts, including Windows metafiles.

A file with the EMZ file extension is a compressed image file, more specifically called a Windows Compressed Extended Metafile file.

Scalable Vector Graphics (abbreviated as SVG) is an XML-based markup language specification and file format for two-dimensional vector graphics, both static and animated and interactive.

DjVu (pronounced “déjà vu”, from the French déjà vu — déjà vu — once seen) is a lossy image compression technology developed by AT&T specifically for storing scanned documents — books, magazines, manuscripts, etc., where there are many formulas, schemes, drawings, and handwritten symbols, which make the full recognition of such a document extremely difficult and time-consuming.

After we have decided on the file format, we can upload it to the application page (it is also possible just type the URL address).

Then in pop-up window we will see the crop-area.

Using cursor, we can set page shape of the new document.

After pressing the button “Crop”, we’ll get the possibility to download cropped file.
