My dear, it’s not enough to pray for love,
especially as she holds her lily hand
into the void, with empty air above,
below. Her eyes an hourglass of sand,
the milliseconds passing. Answer her,
the muted question heavy on her tongue
no mystic declaration to infer;
resolve the tension building in her lungs.
