A Poem

I didn’t know you left
or much less, came back
because it’s as if no time
has passed between us

Days were months
were years were now
and now it doesn’t matter
because here we are
entwined as we were

This delicate bond
has never been so strong
bolstered by fasteners
on loose string
holding our hearts together

I don’t remember the last time
that our eyes met
or when we laughed like this
but this present moment
is all that matters

Me, you, time standing still
no longer asleep
we are both awake again
until we go dormant
and do this all again

lilo — a friendship that can lie dormant for years only to pick right back up instantly, as if no time had passed since you last saw each other. From The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows
