My Relationship Doesn’t Necessarily Have The Moments That Make “Good” Stories
When I first started writing, I had tales of heartbreak and lovers that had been lost
Recently I was watching Bridgerton along with millions of other people and it reminded me of how easy it is for us to yearn for a passionate romance. We witness steamy intimate scenes on a television screen or read them in the pages of a romantic novel and expect them to play out… when they never quite do.
We have to remember that these stories are to play on imagination and excitement… yet for most of us they just set up unrealistic expectations.
My partner and I often joke that the day-to-day isn’t what people want to read about.
After all, the stories that capture attention are the ones that describe the pain of heartbreak, first kisses, making sweet love in the rain, and losing what we want the most.
Who wants to read a story about a couple that made dinner, cuddled, watched a movie, and had “vanilla” sex afterward? Talk about a snoozefest.
It’s true though. The stories that capture people are the ones that describe the pain of heartbreak, first kisses, making love in the rain, and losing the person that we wanted with all of our hearts.
