Assortedge brings first Media Literacy Conference to Mindanao

This August 25–28, journ.assortedge, the campus journalism arm of Assortedge, will be heading to President Roxas, Cotabato to conduct a four-day campus journalism conference entitled journ.assortedge: media literacy conference with the theme “Breaking the chains of misinformation”.

Through this endeavor, Assortedge aims to educate young campus journalists about the trends and techniques in the different contest categories while also instilling in them the ethics and principles of journalism through a series of lectures from experienced speakers and letting them apply their learning through relevant and timely issues the youth must engage in.Furthermore, the forum will focus on the importance of literacy in the era of social media and misinformation.

This event goes in accordance with Republic Act No. 7079, also known as the ‘Campus Journalism Act of 1991.’

Through this law, the State gives liberty “to uphold and protect the freedom of the press even at the campus level and promote the development and growth of campus journalism as a means of strengthening ethical values, encouraging critical and creative thinking, and developing moral character and personal discipline of the Filipino youth.

This event will also be a stepping stone for those aspiring to be part of one of the most sought of projects of this act: the annual National Schools’ Press Conference (NSPC). Here, elementary and secondary students from all over the archipelago gather to prove who is the best among the best young campus journalists of different regions.

Journ.assortedge: media literacy conference will help them hone their skills in preparation for the upcoming NSPC in Dumaguete City next year.
