The Asterisk Project Article Submissions Guideline

Write articles with us!

1) What subjects to publish?

Right now we’re working with the article format. Here’s a list of subjects we’re interested in:

- Asterisk Literature: books, magazines, groups, communities, blogs and zines recommendations, reviews, opinions and articles about the industry. Your own work is welcomed, fiction/poetry/non-fiction etc. Self-promotion is cool if done right! Just putting your book there with “please buy it” won’t fly, sorry.

- Asterisk Art: Visual, digital and performing arts, recommendations, reviews, opinions and stories about the industry.

- Asterisk Translation: We would love to read translations of your work on the Asterisk Project! That’s one example. Translations of other people’s work only with written consent! Recommendations, reviews, opinions and pieces about the industry are also welcomed.

- Asterisk Music: Music, recommendations, reviews, opinions and stories about the industry.

- Asterisk Linguistics: Articles about different languages: grammar, history, applied linguistics, studies, research, teaching and everything else in between.

2) What languages do we accept?

  • As of now, we accept articles in PORTUGUESE and ENGLISH. You can submit the same article in both languages as well. This doesn’t apply only for the Asterisk Translation category, where you can translate to and from other languages.

3) Who can submit articles?

  • Only active members of our project can submit an article! That means you’re writing with us in our #monthlyprompt thread.
  • We might eventually feature guest authors.

4) How many articles can I submit?

  • If you follow the rules, as many as you like.

5) Rules

  • Your article needs to be an unpublished work — this includes personal blog/Tumblr/Medium/ Social Media.
  • Copyright Guidelines! Do you want to use some cool image in your article? Only with the artist’s consent. Do you want to translate a poem? Get the author’s consent. And so on. We need that consent in your article! We would love to publish mostly Original Content in our Publication but if you’re going to use somebody else’s work, please read this so it can be done right.
  • The article should have at least 600 words.
  • Is your article going to deal with sensitive content? Please, let it be known with a disclaimer in the beginning of your article.
  • No hate speech! this includes: racist, misogynic, homophobic or other awful discourses. We are a diverse, inclusive Publication.

6) How to submit an article?

  • If you’re already a Medium Member: if it’s your first time sending us an article, talk to us and we will make you a writer on our Publication. Then, submit a draft to Asterisk Publication and send an e-mail to asteriskproj@gmail.com with the subject line specific to your piece (ex: Asterisk Literature), stating that you’ve sent an draft, the name of the draft and a brief introduction on it.
  • If you’re not a Medium Member: send an e-mail to asteriskproj@gmail.com with the subject line specific to your piece (ex: Asterisk Literature), your name and a brief introduction of yourself, a brief introduction of your article and your article attached (or a link to google drive) in Word format.

7) Will it be published?

  • We will review your article taking in consideration the subject (is it already been done in that same way? Is it related to our interests? etc) /grammar — spelling/ copyright content and everything else on our rules. If there’s something wrong with it but we still want to get it published, we’ll make the considerations and handle it back to you. It’ll be your decision if you want to make the changes or let it go.
  • We do have the right to say no to your article, unfortunately. We don’t want to do that, but it might happen. If you feel like you’ve been wrongly denied, please come talk to us.
  • We do not have a deadline for when your article will be reviewed.
  • We will warn you if your article is approved, via e-mail (that’s why it’s important to send us an e-mail about your submitted draft).
  • If your article is approved, does it mean it will be published right away? No. We might wait for a better time, or for a specific day on the week or it might be published right away. We do not have a deadline for when it will be published.

8) Where will we publish it?

  • On our Medium Publication
  • On our Social Medias: Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and Pinterest.

9) Disclaimer

By publishing in the Asterisk Project Publication, you give the right for the article to be published and disseminated on all of our digital platforms.

  • We don’t pay for your article to be published in our Publication.
