Summer is here in the Northern Hemisphere and that means your students and children have time for lots of fun things. Add these astronomy activities from astroEDU to your list for some educational fun.

  1. The Sun is human’s oldest time keeping device

Summer days are long, so it is a good chance for students to watch the Sun’s shadow throughout the day to explore the influence of the Sun’s position in the sky and the differences over the seasons.

2. Calculate the size of the Sun to see how it is actually much, much bigger than it appears in the sky.

Students can try to measure the diameter of the Sun. All they need is a mirror, a stopwatch, playdough, some papers… and of course, a sunny day, which makes it a perfectly fitting activity for the summer.

3. Human-sized space travel board game

The astronomy themed version of the classic snakes and ladders game can also be played outdoors. This is an interactive game for children to learn various astronomical objects while moving to the winning square as space travellers.

So, with these interesting activities of astroEDU, your students and children will not only enjoy the sun this summer but also become amazed and learn a bit more about the Universe.
