On the 16th August, Farhan Shahzad, a Blockchain and Cognitive Solution Architect at IBM, gave a talk about Blockchain, Hyperledger Fabric and Composer, and IBM’s role in actualizing Blockchain in the UAE, in collaboration with Smart Dubai.

Hosted at Astrolabs, a shared work space for startups in Dubai, people starting pouring in at 6:30.

The IBM Cloud Developer Experience team kicked off the event, talking about what we do, and going over the Global Entrepreneur Program and all its perks and benefits.

Farhan took over from Aoun, emphasizing the importance of Blockchain, explaining the technologies behind Blockchain, and giving a discussion about Bitcoin. After the breakout session, he went over the benefits of Blockchain over traditional centralized forms of recording transactions. As the talk wore on, dozens of Blockchain enthusiasts, bankers, and developers turned up in what was one of Astrolabs’ biggest turnout.

The rest of the time was spent going over use-cases, as the developers and enthusiasts asked questions, clarified doubts, and got an overall feel of the Blockchain scene in the UAE.

The meetup wrapped up with a networking session, as like-minded people interacted, and it was an overall enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
