Eclipse of My Heart

Can your hand eclipse the heart?

It can eclipse the sun

and free the soul —

so of course you can eclipse the heart.

Don’t let me grow silent;

do not let my soul grow easy.

Take from me the will to stray

and scrub my soul to shine.

Do not hide my fire

underneath the chalice of fear —

do not snuff out the breath

the air in my lungs.

God, fuel the burning embers

to light the lamp at the lighthouse.

Guide us through the fog

and free me from the clutches

of the enemy in the waves.

Do not let my heart be pulled away.

Lord, I plead

lead me to victory.

Cover me in your cloak

so I may be warmed by your spirit

set free by your tenderness.
