2022 has been a tough year for technology founders and the venture market — starting in a tech slump and ending in a down right downturn. Valuations have flatlined, funding activity faltered, and there are no signs of a rebound anytime soon. Not quite the happy-go-lucky summary we would have hoped for at the start of the year…

Over at Frontline HQ it’s been all-hands-on-deck and, despite the doom and gloom backdrop, it’s been a positive year for us as our founders focused even further on the customer, executed like crazy and proved their resilience. Here’s a rundown of what we’ve been up to over the last 12 months, including a helpful infographic for those of you who have read one too many blog posts this year.

We’ve made investments into 13 new companies and 18 follow on rounds. Not all of these have been announced yet, but we’re delighted to publicly welcome Vanta, Yonder, Speckle, Docbot, and Solvo.ai to our portfolio, and to have participated in follow-on rounds for Insify, Humaans, Appital, Elucidate, Koyo and Unleash.

Our pre-seed and seed fund continues to invest in European startups that have the ambition to get quickly into the largest market (US) and our growth fund (Frontline Growth) continues to help the very best US companies plot their path into the European market on their way to IPO. And of course we continue to focus on B2B SaaS, our mainstay investment focus since we launched in 2012.

Our portfolio has collectively raised €725m in new funding rounds throughout the year, and two of our portfolio companies were acquired (Tandem by Beqom in August, and Roomex by Fleetcor in October).

We’ve loved meeting old and new faces at in-person events again this year, from SaaStr to SaaStock, TechBBQ to Slush, and EthCC to Women in VC.

As we look ahead to the New Year, we’re looking forward to welcoming two new members to the team, running our first in person Summit, and relaunching the legendary Frontline Quiz in time for St Patrick’s Day (keep your calendars open, folks).

See you in 2023…

Will, Stephen, William, Brennan, Zoë and all the Frontline team
