What is Time’s Up?

Time’s Up is a movement and organization with the objective and success stories to create a safe workplace space for everyone regardless of gender, race, class, career, ethnicity, religion, etc. the Time’s Up movement has been taking critical steps to be successful on the abomination of gender-based violence and influencing social media. Through promotion of the movement and activism from celebrity platforms, the use of social media and the support on an international level, the Time’s Up movement has begun to change lives and positively impact and validate a significant amount of workplace sexual harassment survivors and educate more individuals about these types of discrimination to further prevent unsafe spaces in the progressing working world and community.

Reaching People Across All Work Environments

With the Time’s up movement standing for equity on all levels and the abomination of gender-based violence when it comes to safety in the working world, it has begun to reach an international level and women from across the globe have from all levels of working class, started to come forward and find the help they need in response to the progress being made. An open letter was received by Time’s Up from the Alianza Nacional de Campesinas. Alianza Nacional de Campesinas is an organization in support of women farmworkers and all of their ally. 700,000 women from the working farm communities wrote the letter in support of the Time’s Up movement and the actions they have been taking to make a change for some many individuals affected by sexual violence. The letter openly discusses the support they’re giving, and the discloses about how no victim and/or survivor should feel alone in their circumstance’s; encouraging more women to seek the help they need regardless of where they hail from or the job they have. The Time’s Up movement openly acknowledged that by recognizing this letter and released that it gave the founders more incentive to put a larger focus on the working-class community to further their inclusivity.

Time’s Up and Social Media

The Time’s up movement has continually been making a difference through the use of social media and digital media platforms. The 2018 Golden Globe awards were a huge start and recognition for Time’s Up and spreading the word. Themes and color schemes for the red carpet always come and go but for this particular Golden Globe awards multiple actresses wore black dresses to show their support for times up and raise awareness. Actresses like Ashley Judd, Reese Witherspoon, Natalie Portman and Rashida Jones all took part in the black dress theme for Time’s Up. Through the promotion and recognition received over digital media, this further resulted in the most used hashtag of the night across all of Twitter to be #Time’sUp. The Time’s Up Movement also has a follow able Instagram account with 669,000 followers. The account posts different social justice marches and events that involves Time’s Up as well as success stories of people who sought help through Time’s Up. They also upload positivity posts for women and survivors to spread more moral support for those who need it. Time’s Up has also taken to Facebook. Nowadays, the vast majority use at least some form or shape of social media to stay in touch with news, their friends, family and basic trends circling the internet. Time’s Up has recognized that a way of getting their word out to a large number of people at the same time would be through promoting their social media use and campaigns. This influence’s Time’s Up because they gain followers and likes and hashtags which result in Time’s Up news being spread to a larger and larger number of people every day across multiple different platforms. Being able to reach a large amount of people with a positive message and information for more people to also seek help is another was that Time’s Up is making a difference.

Time’s Up Now

With the objective to help put a stop to gender based violence and create equity across the working world regardless of who you are and where you come from, the Time’s Up movement has been demonstrating just how social justice and making a change can be done and will continue to succeed and improve the lives of many. The solidarity of women on an international level and through the use of social media, Time’s Up has been able and will continue to be able to make a difference for survivors of workplace sexual harassment and gender based violence’s. Through the course of 2018, Time’s Up was able to raise $22 million dollars with those proceeds going to multiple different women’s outreach programs and also to support the legal expenses of some 3755 individuals who have found help through the creation of the Time’s Up movement. As the Time’s Up movement continues to progress and move forward in trying to change the unsafe spaces in the working world, they spread support and contacts for anyone else who is or knows a victim looking for help and no longer chose to be silenced. Time’s Up is giving a voice to the people that have been kept quiet or silenced for so long and educate more people every day to further prevent sexual misconduct from continuing to cause harm.
