Clinical Specialist Ty Green is an EMT assigned to ATCEMS’ Communications Division

“Every single day I have the ability to impact the lives of the citizens we serve. That’s what attracts me to this career.”

I’m Tyler Green, serving the citizens of Austin and Travis County as a Clinical Specialist for the Communications Division. I grew up in the public safety sector beginning as being a member of ATCEMS Explorer Post 247 for 4 1/2 years. I began my full-time career with ATCEMS the fall of 2016 and am loving every bit of it. I spend a lot of my free time studying for the in-house Paramedic Program ATCEMS offers,or spending time with my fur baby…She is a mess! I’ve also been spending a lot of time on the beautiful trails throughout this amazing city.

What brought you to Austin?

My uncle currently serves as a Captain in the field and he started the EMS Explorer Post several years ago. I remember coming with him to one of the meetings and knew this was going to be the career for me. Currently, the department has three members of my family serving in the ranks. I guess it’s a family calling!

What inspired you to become a medic/what attracted you to this career choice?

Being able to see the difference you can make. When someone dials 9–1–1 most of the time it is the worst day of their life. The majority of the public might only dial 9–1–1 once in a lifetime. Every single day I have the ability to impact the lives of the citizens we serve. That’s what attracts me to this career.

How long have you been with ATCEMS and what motivated you to work here?

I have been with ATCEMS for almost two years and I look forward to coming to work every single day. Literally, this is the best department around. We have progressive medical direction, awesome co-workers (I call them all family), and tons of different specialties to pursue in this field.

What is your favorite part about working here at ATCEMS?

The people! Both the citizens of this community, and especially my coworkers, are the best. Also, ATCEMS is one of the leaders in EMS, providing plenty of opportunities to practice medicine.

If you had guests visiting Austin for the weekend, where is the first place you would take them?

Barton Creek Greenbelt! Get your hike on!

What is your favorite taco joint in town?

This one is easy — Tyson's Tacos hands down is the BEST! Now it’s even better since they are open 24/7… perfect for people in EMS.

What do you do on your days to relax and unwind?

Hiking and spending time with my pup. She is now old enough to hit the trails with me. When the weather is not cooperating, or is just too hot, I could sit and watch movies all day.

Who inspires you?

I don’t really look for someone to inspire me. I simply try and make a difference… Every day my goal is to make someone’s day better!

What is the next place you would like to visit? Why?

I would like to go visit New York City and experience the sites and history. I also want to go to the mountains and enjoy nature up north. I’d plan that trip when it’s too hot in Texas, just so I can get a break from the heat.

Word of advice for an aspiring medic?

Don’t give up! Take care of your mental health — it takes a lot to do what we do every day. Find someone to talk to and get the stressful or heavy things off your chest. You are joining a big family, and we take care of each other. No one walks the line alone. WELCOME TO EMS!
