In a National Survey directed by Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment and UNODC (United Nations Office on Drugs & Crimes), for 2000–01, it was approximated that around 731 lakh peoples in India were he consumers of Drugs & Alcohol. Among these, 20 lakh consumes opium, 87 lakh consumes weed and 625lakh were consuming liquors. In the survey, the prevalence of consuming drugs is extensive in males as compared to the no. of females. In spite of the verity, that males consume drugs more than the females, but the influence of drugs usage inclined to be more on females, due to deficient approach to care for the dependency on drugs. The consumption of drugs could be due to psychological issues, financial stress, distressed family environs and violence. Juvenile Drugs exploitation is another prime zone of concern, as most probably the drug-addicted peoples are hooked to drugs before the age of 14 years.
As per one report, nearly 75 percent Indian houses have one member, who is in drug addiction. And younger one’s as 14 even 16 are aforesaid to be inclining towards drugs. It initiates as a trial experience, but in most of the cases, converts into a hazardous addiction.
The question: Why do juveniles so rapidly gets caught into drugs? Has concerned Indian Politicians, Scientists and Researchers for several decades. Adolescents or Adults usually incline towards consuming drugs in order to restrain stress or due to family problems, growing in school/college/workplace, relationship issues, economic problems, emptiness sentiment, work/study pressures, aggression, failures, poor social skills, inefficacious parenting and many more.
Moreover, it may also be a genetic issue. One study proclaims that, In India, the greater number of drug addicts became bowed on the drugs right after their friends presented the drugs in front of them. Furthermore, among these, 35% addicts became habituated after consuming it for merriment and inquisitiveness.
Whatever by the cause, it’s indispensable to comprehend that the consumption of drugs only exacerbates the issues rather than figuring-out them.
