It’s the time we contemplated the legalization of the herb. And why to be on a stand-by for a fortunate day, when we can do-it now!

Marijuana or Herb or Cannabis or Hemp for West, is usually known as Ganja, Bhaang or Charas in our India. Of this, Ganja and Charas are illicit and Bhaang can be purchased from govt. licensed shops only. The herb has been into usage since aeons ago for immense amount of advantages. It finds innumerable citations in the anchient Ayurvedic Samhitas and Vedas as a recreational and medicinal plant.

Intense awareness and research on the Marijuana plant has verified that the chemicals in a cannabis plant, known-as Cannabinoids, which’re beneficial in the treatment of the symptoms of chronic maladies, disorders and illness. Then, Why’s this cannabis plant now banned in our country?

Let’s go back in past to apprehend, why marijuana is illicit in India. Following the initial phase of sixteenth centenary, the United States of America was propagandizing the ban on all kinds of drugs (both hard and soft), worldwide. India outlasted this enforcement as using Marijuana was the manner of life for us.

Nevertheless, in the eighteenth centenary, the Hippies society and their addiction to marijuana reached at its peak. The nation was wrestling on, How to take over this circumstance. The demand to ban all forms of drugs inclined and we eventually capitulated to it. The then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi established the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Under this Act both Ganja and Charas were illicit and anyone who found with these substance could be detained for upto 20 yrs. Bhaang was ONLY made licit and could be bought from government licensed shops.

So, what India acquired from the ban of Cannabis? Nothing! The ban on cannabis is more a bane. We’re depriving a country of the numerous medicinal profits of Marijuana. The cannabinoids found in the plant of Cannabis is a huge healer. It can be utilized for treatment of many medicinal conditions, like arthritis, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, cancer, insomnia, HIV or AIDS treatment, etc. Infact, it has been seen that those who’re undergoing excruciating therapy like for HIV/AIDS or cancer, gets relief from suffering when they’re provided a little dosage of medicinal cannabis.

Is the profits or perks of cannabinoids from this cannabis plant is confined only to medicinal usages? Should India legitimize Marijuana, If Yes, Why?

Secondarily, it will provide many farmers an extra option of cultivating a crop. It’s a fact that, when creation of substance inclines so do federated businesses. Business will require more manpower and thus it’ll ameliorate the opportunities of jobs. What more? With enlarged production & sales and latest tax arrangement of the country, in legitimizing Cannabis will lead to more revenue generation for the government.

Witnessing the enlargement of Marijuana industry closely, we find that, it’s on the edge of a global advancement. India is literally sitting on a chest of gold, as a nation we’ve huge knowledge on its usage and the favorable climatic environment for its production in large amount. Legitimizing Marijuana would be like, we can be the prime player in this industry and get a position for ourselves as a chief of the Marijuana-based products.

Given these superfluity of grounds, It’s the time we contemplated the legalization of the herb. And why to be on a stand-by for a fortunate day, when we can do it now!
