Lying About What the Bible Says, Results in More, Not Less Abortions

It is one thing to be pro-life, it is another to justify it based on what someone told you what God or the Bible says about it.

While no law, not even a constitutional amendment, will ever stop abortions, there are things that conservatives and liberals working together can surely do to prevent a lot of them, while reducing suffering and stress to many of our fellow human beings.

Let us first look at what the Bible really says about babies, children, and the unborn. Then after a short-documented history on just how the pro-life movement started, we can go to work on reducing abortions.

All Bible quotations are word for word from the New American Standard Version, reputed to be the most accurate English translation.

1. The Bible declares that God breathed life into man’s body after he was fully formed (Genesis 2:7). There are many other verses that equate breath with life. We know that developing babies need oxygen beginning early in pregnancy, and the baby will not take their first breath until after birth. This means that babies do not breathe in the womb. Instead, the umbilical cord provides the baby with oxygen until their first breath, which does not take place until outside the womb. In fact, they cannot breathe until then because their lungs are full of fluid and are not inflated. It is the umbilical cord that continues to supply a baby with oxygen until after it is born.

2. While the Bible gives 60 specific violations that require the violator to be put to death, not one of them deals with abortion. A few of them are; a child that picks up sticks on the sabbath (Numbers 15:32–34,) adultery (Leviticus 20:10), blasphemy (Leviticus 24:10–16), a woman who marries without being a virgin (Deuteronomy 22:13–21), marrying your wife’s mother (Leviticus 20:14), cursing your parents (Exodus 20:9 and Exodus 21:17), slandering (Leviticus 9:16), worshiping Baal (Leviticus 25:1–9), and about 50 more. Anyone who lists 60 crimes that warrant the death penalty, but does not include abortion, certainly would not have viewed it as wrong or at least, less important.

3. Exodus 21:22–25 “If men struggle with each other and strike a woman with child so that she gives birth prematurely, yet there is no injury, he shall surely be fined as the woman’s husband may demand of him, and he shall pay as the judges decide. But if there is any further injury, then you shall appoint as a penalty life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise.” Here we see that the Bible unambiguously indicates that the fetus is not a person but rather is property belonging to the father. The miscarriage caused by an attack is clearly stated to be a non-injury and is only a monetary loss to the father. Leviticus 24:17 declares “If a man takes the life of any human being, he shall surely be put to death.” Thus, the unborn was not considered a human being according to the Bible.

4. Exodus 21:12 and Leviticus 20:10 declare that the law required that David be put to death, for both adultery and murder. However, God decided instead to kill a seven-day old baby as his punishment in addition to arranging that David’s wives be raped in broad daylight.

2 Samuel 12:15–18a So Nathan went to his house. Then the Lord struck the child that Uriah’s widow bore to David, so that he was very sick. David therefore inquired of God for the child; and David fasted and went and lay all night on the ground. The elders of his household stood beside him in order to raise him up from the ground, but he was unwilling and would not eat food with them. Then it happened on the seventh day that the child died.

2 Samuel 12:11–12 Thus says the Lord, “Behold, I will raise up evil against you from your own household; I will even take your wives before your eyes and give them to your companion, and he will lie with your wives in broad daylight. Indeed, you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, and under the sun.”

5. While the Bible records 613 laws and ordinances that must not be violated, not one of them deals with abortion. A few of the prohibitions are; the wearing of clothes that mixes wool and linen (Deuteronomy 22:11), tattoos (Leviticus 19:28), eating shrimp (Leviticus 11:9–12), the shaving of the beard with a razor (Leviticus 19:27), the eating of pork (Deuteronomy 14:8), or women wearing men’s clothing (Deuteronomy 22:5). A couple more explains how a man is to divorce his wife if he finds no favor in her (Deuteronomy 24:1), and the requirement that a man marry the wife of his dead brother (Deuteronomy 25:5–10). In fact, God killed Onan for not impregnating his sister-in-law Tamor (Genesis 28:8–10). And of course, we all know never to boil a young goat in his mother’s milk (Exodus 34:26). As an aside, this last example is was given while God was speaking to Moses on Mt. Sinai the second time.

6. If there is truly a divine love for the unborn, why do approximately 50 percent of all fertilized eggs “die” without any knowledge of the mother? Once the embryo reaches the blastocyst stage, approximately five to six days after fertilization, it hatches out of its zona pellucida and begins the process of implantation in the uterus. In nature, roughly 50 percent of all fertilized eggs are lost before a woman’s missed menses. If the destruction of a conceived embryo is murder, then it would seem that God would be the murderer, since He was the only one who knew about the egg being fertilized and the Bible claims that He is all knowing and all powerful.

7. God allowed all the babies two years old and younger to be killed because He directed the three Magi to journey to King Herod in Jerusalem first, instead of directing them straight to the manger in Bethlehem. Hundreds of innocent babies could have been easily saved had God pointed the star to Bethlehem instead of to Jerusalem in the first place. (Matthew chapter 2)

8. If the Bible is true, and thankfully it is not, then during Noah’s flood, numerous babies and pregnant woman would have been drowned, as well as all the pet cats, dogs and bunny rabbits. Apparently, God’s first creation was not good, and certainly the second one is no better.

9. The same would be true of the population in Sodom and Gomorrah. Many of those killed would have been babies and pregnant woman. And can you believe that the only man God saved from its destruction was Lot? 2 Peters 2:7 calls him “righteous Lot.” He quickly got drunk and impregnated both of his daughters, but the Bible protects the man and tells us that it was the girls who got him drunk and then commenced to rape him. He denied not knowing or feeling a thing. (Genesis chapters 18 and 19)

10. The following verses describe some of the many punishments that God inflicts when His honor is offended, which makes it clear that He does not value the sanctity of life.

Hosea 13:16 Samaria will be held guilty, for she has rebelled against her God. They will fall by the sword, their little ones will be dashed in pieces, and their pregnant women will be ripped open.

Lamentations 4:9–11 Better are those slain with the sword than those slain with hunger; for they pine away, being stricken for lack of the fruits of the field. The hands of compassionate women boiled their own children; they became food for them because of the destruction of the daughter of my people.
The Lord has accomplished His wrath, He has poured out His fierce anger; and He has kindled a fire in Zion which has consumed its foundations.

Leviticus 26:27–29 ‘Yet if in spite of this you do not obey Me, but act with hostility against Me, then I will act with wrathful hostility against you, and I, even I, will punish you seven times for your sins. Further, you will eat the flesh of your sons and the flesh of your daughters you will eat.

Numbers 31:15–18 And Moses said to them, “Have you spared all the women? Behold, these caused the sons of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to trespass against the Lord in the matter of Peor, so the plague was among the congregation of the Lord. Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man intimately. But all the girls who have not known man intimately, spare for yourselves. Babies were killed because their parents “caused” God’s chosen people to sin. Why not just punish them rather than innocent babies? Notice however, that God instructed them to keep the young virgin girls for themselves.

Psalms 137:8–9 Daughter Babylon, doomed to destruction, happy is the one who repays you according to what you have done to us. Happy is the one who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks.

Deuteronomy 28: 47 “Because you did not serve the Lord your God with joy and a glad heart, for the abundance of all things;… 53 Then you shall eat the offspring of your own body, the flesh of your sons and of your daughters whom the Lord your God has given you, during the siege and the distress by which your enemy will oppress you… 57 and toward her afterbirth which issues from between her legs and toward her children whom she bears; for she will eat them secretly for lack of anything else, during the siege and the distress by which your enemy will oppress you in your towns.

Jeremiah 19:8–9 I will also make this city a desolation and an object of hissing; everyone who passes by it will be astonished and hiss because of all its disasters. I will make them eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they will eat one another’s flesh in the siege and in the distress with which their enemies and those who seek their life will distress them.”

1 Samuel 15:1–3 Then Samuel said to Saul, “The Lord sent me to anoint you as king over His people, over Israel; now therefore, listen to the words of the Lord. Thus, says the Lord of hosts, ‘I will punish Amalek for what he did to Israel, how he set himself against him on the way while he was coming up from Egypt. Now go and strike Amalek and utterly destroy all that he has, and do not spare him; but put to death both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.”

Joshua 6:21 They utterly destroyed everything in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox and sheep and donkey, with the edge of the sword.

11. The birth of the pro-life movement is most interesting and revealing. In an article by Therin Alrik, documentation is given that explains how millions of citizens were successfully manipulated to become single issue voters. And it had little to do with loving children, babies or the unborn. As you know, the decision in Roe vs Wade was handed down in 1973. The movement named “The Moral Majority” was not born until 1979, (SIX FULL YEARS LATER) at the time when the I.R.S. was investigating the segregation/discrimination policies of Jerry Falwell’s and Bob Jones’s private schools. Such a policy jeopardized their tax-exempt status. Before that time, abortion was accepted by the majority of Christians and denominations. Not coincidentally, in 1979, Ronald Reagan who was campaigning for president, was speaking out against school busing, affirmative action and welfare queens. A political stage was now available to gain power and save their tax-exempt status, while raising a lot of money.

With ulterior motives, they lied about what the Bible taught and by manipulating emotions, they created an army of single-issue voters. For forty years now, many politicians have copied that strategy and continue to use those same voters to raise tens of millions of dollars by cutting taxes and regulations for their rich corporate donors, while slashing programs designed to assist children to ensure adequate food, health care, safe housing (with heat, running water and electric), better and equal schools and a sundry of other things that so blatantly violate the “golden rule.” Their actions and deception clearly show that they care little or nothing about babies and children, nor about morality or even common decency. How then can we all reduce abortions? It is so easy. While there are a few reasons why women have abortions, the inability to ensure a safe and healthy life for the new baby and the barrier to contraception play the major role. Repeatedly, studies have shown that of all the birth control methods, abstinence has the lowest rate of success. Unintended pregnancy remains most common among poor women, women of color and women without a high school education. Women living in poverty have a rate of unintended pregnancy five times higher than those with middle or high incomes. Black women are twice as likely to have an unintended pregnancy as white women.

Forty-two percent of women with unintended pregnancy choose to end their pregnancies. Poor women account for most abortion patients. Financial stress plays a major role in women’s decision-making. Seventy-three percent of women reported that they could not afford a baby at the time. Unintended pregnancy rates are highest among low-income women (i.e., women with incomes less than 200% of the federal poverty level). It is naturally (and motherly) to be extremely fearful to bring a new child into the world, if the odds are stacked against the child growing up in a healthy, safe and stable environment.

While this is more complicated than either side often presents, the fact is, it has been the Democrats that fight for better wages, better health care, child day care, school breakfasts and lunches, better schools, regulations to prevent children from getting sick or injured, etc, etc. etc! So, it is simply wrong for them to be accused of not loving babies and children. A fair and honest look at this, and one must concede that it is the other side that opposes most of those very things in the name of keeping taxes low for themselves and for the politician’s rich corporate donors. Sorry, but that just does not sound like being pro-life to me. It has been proven repeatedly that contraceptives prevent many abortions, as does having a living wage that would enable the child to be raised in a safe and stable family. Also, comprehensive sex education prevents many pregnancies and STDs. Voting for politicians that support programs that provide a living wage and good health care is pro-family and pro-children and will reduce the number of abortions. No law, not even a constitutional amendment, will ever stop abortions; but together, we can sure prevent a lot of them while at the same time, making a much fairer and just nation with a whole lot of less suffering and hardship. Want to reduce abortions? Then vote for those candidates who love children, justice, and kindness, more than their corporate donors, or those who put young children in cages.
