All of us live with our past. All of us allow it to shape our future. But some of us know how to shrug the past. I think that is who she is…

At an exorbitant speed of around 120kmph their brand new Royce was running smoother than butter on the new expressway. Mini, at the backseat was constantly poking her elder sister and they were laughing their hearts out. Even Tim seemed so excited to be with them after so long. He wagged his tail nonstop crazily! She stole a glance at the front mirror at her husband. He winked. She couldn’t help but laugh with them!

I know how desperately she had been waiting for this very moment for the past six months- for her kids to come home for vacations- and a ‘full family’ long drive! It was a gala family moment; when out of the blue, within five seconds, their laughter and smiles turned into screams and shrieks!

No joke. Their car ROLLED OVER complete 360 degrees… THRICE.

Her family had a major car accident…

Five seconds- to transform their ‘gala-day-out’ to a ‘doomsday’…

Just FIVE seconds…

Tini, her elder daughter succumbed to her head injuries on the spot…she had seen the shreds of windshield…how they bore right into the skull of her beloved daughter… and how ruthlessly the gory blood oozed out of it.

Mini- had been in ICU for the whole day.

Her husband- rendered cripple for the rest of his life, lost his right hand.

Tim- survived major injuries- glass shredded his skin, giving deep wounds.

She- Safe and sound, not even a scratch!

She called it ‘An unlucky escape’.

She has returned from the cremation ground, after attending the LAST RITES of her DAUGHTER and has been feeling numb for two whole days.

Her husband will now have to quit his job.

Their financial resources will undoubtedly deplete fast and she has to come out of this black hole faster- she knows it well.

She has promised me- she will live once again.

Not that she has forgotten Tini; but because she has to live for the sake of her younger daughter. She has her husband; she had pledged to dedicate her life.

I can see his lifeless face too. Apart from losing his daughter, he is also feeling worthless losing his limb.

Tim is gloomy, not for himself, he too is suffering with his family. Perhaps, he too might be feeling this to be an ‘unlucky escape’, who knows!

The family is shattered and she has noticed this now when she came out of her own gloom. She has promised herself, she won’t let this happen to them. After all, it’s truly said- it’s onto a woman- Make the home or break it!

Mini will recover fast, she is confident. Even the doctors agree. She won’t spoil her younger daughter’s life. She is planning to make certain changes to help them all overcome the grief.

Firstly, they shall change their location- New town, new home, new beginning.

Then, with the amount of saving she currently has; she can start a small grocery shop of their own. She plans to take full charge of it, with her husband’s help. One lost hand can’t end a man’s life!

Next, she will focus all her energy to nurture her daughter. She will keep her engaged with all sort of recreational activities- dance, music, sports and meditation. She will spend all her free time talking to her- about how she spends the day at school, what new she learns and what good deeds she does. She will make her learn that every good deed she does will help her sister’s soul rest in peace.

She is a tough woman. She keeps herself away from negativity, no matter how harsh the days are. It can be very dangerous- a small negative thought entering the brain is capable of multiplying rapidly millions of times and no sooner you will realize you have actually procrastinated all goodness away from your life.

Nonetheless, she is not a saint. She is a human being, a mother above all. And no matter how much she tries to keep herself busy, she will still cry when she will see the two sisters smiling in the huge family photograph on the drawing room wall. She will still weep her heart out when she will see the lovely dress gifted by her on her anniversary. Her tears will refuse to stop when she will abruptly get to see her pretty birthday frock in her cupboard. Even years ahead, she will remember her when she will cook her favorite ‘ladyfinger’.

She is no saint. She is a mother, who had a happy small family last morning. Out of the blue, her world turned upside down.

Life keeps giving lessons. The oars are always there. Take charge, else the currents will!

I salute her for her courage. I feel proud, not every woman can show this courage. And then, the next moment I am already crying bitterly, because…I too am a woman. I am a mother too…
