Lady Gaga and Prince William Strip the Stigma from Mental Illness
As we all know, mental illness is frequently treated as a taboo subject; the elephant in the room no one wants to address.
This has devastating effects on individuals, families, and workplaces, as the longer mental health is ignored, the harder it is for individuals suffering from conditions to find their way back. The numbers are staggering — an estimated 1 in 5 Americans suffers from some form of mental illness, whether it be depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder or PTSD, just to name a few.
Two of our world’s icons are working to put an end to the stigma placed on mental illness and face it head-on. Singer and actress Lady Gaga and Great Britain’s Prince William are no strangers to the struggles of mental illness. Lady Gaga has had ongoing issues with PTSD after a violent sexual assault and Prince William has wrestled with the loss of his own mother whilst watching his brother Prince Harry.
This unlikely duo teamed up late last month to openly discuss the need for greater awareness of this worldwide issue. Taking to Facebook in a live streaming video, they discussed the importance of bringing the seriousness of mental illness to the forefront and learning to openly discuss and address it.
