Actually, no. That is most emphatically not what feminism is about. Feminism is, has always been, will always be about equality and equal treatment of all human beings, something we have not achieved yet. Which is why we’re feminists, that is people who fought for universal suffrage, self-determination and freedom for women and men alike. NOT special treatment. Just basic equality.

Because I’m sick of being complacent and I think everyone should start asking for things. I often feel like a nerd, shy to ask the most popular person out on date. ¶ Over and over I read about how women make less than men and that most don’t negotiate their salary at the risk of being perceived as “pushy”. The motto of this year’s International Women’s Day was “a call for parity”. In 2016, equality within the workplace is a bigger topic than…ever before. The good news is that now the conversation is filled with more than just complaining women. More and more men are joining in and that’s great. We all want to help women break the glass ceiling, close the pay gap and increase their participation on C-Suite. We all want women to be successful! ¶ The bad news is that our definition of a successful woman hasn’t evolved much over the years.

It seems you’re concerned that women are only fighting for women’s benefits when they talk about feminist issues. While it understandable…that you think so, (there are tons of anti-feminists who keep tossing out articles and YouTube rants claiming this as if it’s true, after all) it is however a rather uninformed view! ¶ The reality is that women—feminists of all genders, to be precise—are already helping tackle a great deal of issues that are unfair or unequal towards men: ¶ Feminists are heavily involved in prison reform, drug decriminalization and harm reduction; issues that primarily affect men.
