Yesterday, after we published the first part of a “guerilla” interview with ex-Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis, the Greek media reported on it extensively.

The interview cause quite a stir. In it, Varoufakis says that himself and Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras had agreed to threaten the country’s creditors with a bond haircut, a point which was misreported by most as a threat to leave the Eurozone, known as “Grexit”.

New Democracy, the centre-right opposition party immediately responded via official channels, accusing Varoufakis and Tsipras of “deliberately deceiving the people” during the turbulent negotiations last year.

Syriza also reacted but to a different point. Varoufakis accused current Deputy Prime Minister Yiannis Dragasakis of undermining his authority to the European Central Bank’s (ECB) head, Mario Draghi, during those same months.

Dragasakis responded today with a series of tweets in which he accuses Varoufakis of attempting to “rewrite [his] story”. He claims that the specific meeting that Yanis Varoufakis is referring to in the interview never took place, and that he’s only met Draghi twice, both occasions with current Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos present.

The interview has so far been broadcasted and shared by every outlet in Greece. It has also been translated in German, by our partners at Krautreporter. A second part will be published soon.
