Vintage Finds in Midtown

Photos by Spades Rivera

First stop: Java Jive Coffee House and Café at 790 Ponce de Leon Ave. NE. To the left holds their large collection of stoves, chairs, posters and fans from the 1950’s. Just make sure to have cash on hand before visiting as they don’t accept debit or credit cards.
Next stop: The Lucky Exchange at 212 Ponce de Leon Ave. NE. Open since 2003, lovers of the vintage look can find clothes from the eras of Y2K, ’70s, ’80s, etc. Clothes can be bought, sold and exchanged, although there’s conditions for the clothes brought in.
Sheri Pair ringing up a customer after telling them to visit Psycho Sisters in order to find suspenders. She had been in this industry for over a decade and can tell which era each article of clothing belongs to just by looking at them.
Next stop: Goodwill at 1460 Northside Drive. NW.
Always be sure to check the shelves at the very back as there may be items such as aged, wooden jewelry boxes or wicker backets hidden among the strewn items.
Last stop: Lost-N-Found Youth Thrift Store at 2585 Chantilly Drive. NE. This nonprofit thrift store helps to provide for homeless LGBTQ+ youth and they have more than just clothes to sift through. There’s also furniture, small household appliances, and even old house phones.
Antique dolls from the 1950s fast asleep in their boxes.
1910 Italian rocking chair for children, teddy bear unfortunately not included.
Fun and classy Marilyn Monroe decorative plates in a cabinet beside the one with porcelain dolls.
An aged piano that appears to have been played plenty before being surrendered. Testing out one of the keys evoked a short and dull chime.
Retro home furniture and decorations found. A lot of them are honestly very nice and for certain pieces, the prices are actually debatable. Helpful for someone trying to decorate their first apartment on a budget in this economy.
