Sneak peak of Atler prototype

I’m glad we are at the point to tell about our sports startup coming into private beta this August. Its name is Atler. We plan to have few iterations for early adopters. So, if by the end of this text you feel like this is something you always needed or have ideas — feel free to contact us.

In short Atler is a toolset which helps professional coaches to analyze fitness testing results. We designed it to serve three main purposes: coaches save lots of time to actually coach, they have more insights to create better training programs and teams to have athletic level of informations for strategic decisions.

Professional sports coaches may use Atler for pre-camp or pre-season fitness testings to understand athletes physical shape. That provides data-driven foundation to design meaningful and safe training programs for a camp or whole season. Head Coaches will be able to see whole team strong and weak sides, groups of athletes with outstanding results and deviating individuals. Athletes may instantly see their testing result and understand their abilities.

Analytics

It takes time, software and analytical skills to analyze results. Coaches may spend from few hours to up to few days to analyze each athlete fitness profile, test results dynamics, team strengths and weaknesses, outline best and low performers. Atler helps to get those and even more insights in 5 minutes. It automatically builds athletes profiles and team dashboard from testing results. We design it to make data handling, building formulas and analyzing data inexistent.

Configuration

Atler has default setup, but is easily configurable. When you sign in for the first time there are already popular types of tests in common categories. For example Beep Test for Aerobic Endurance, Sprint for Speed and Vertical Jump for Power and so on. There are also preset athletes groups, so that for example you could analyze forwards separately from defensemen. We already past first round of testing with professional teams coaches. All of them said that Atler is very simple to understand and start to work with.

We know that there are a lot of differences from coach to coach and from sports to sports. In Atler coaches can configure their own tests, categories, groups of athletes, result norms and eventually test sets (batteries). So, yes, you can use Atler to configure your own tests and set specific norms for rookie defensemen you are testing while pre-season development camp.

For those who don’t have their own norms we have build-in Atler model to evaluate athletes results. It is based on statistical distribution and shown which results are Very High, High, Normal, Low or Very Low within current group. So, whether coaches have or don’t have norms they always can evaluate results within their own team. If Atler is not enough — you can export whole team data, athlete or particular test and do whatever you need outside.

Security

Especially in elite sports data security is very important. We develop Atler the way that both login details and data are safe. For that we use Auto0 for authorization and Amazon Web Services to store and handle data. Auto0 is compliant and has all major security certificates, in AWS we keep all data encrypted and safe from attacks.

Features to come

Analytics is not the only part of fitness testing process and we aim to help coaches with much more. You may enter testing results into Atler from computer just having internet connection. But to make process simpler, avoid handwriting mistakes and paper protocols mess we are developing mobile interface to enter results from your phone.

Getting data and analyzing is only a half way to make positive change. This is why we designing secure sharing functionality. Coaches will be able to share whole team with other coaches or individual profiles with athletes to discuss results and the next steps.

That are only few features from our roadmap. We already have a lot of things planned and besides that we work with coaches to constantly improve what we already have.

What Atler is NOT

We cannot make Atler perfect for everyone because it makes software complex. We don’t want coaches have to learn how to use it. We optimize Atler to help coaches all along the process of comprehensive fitness assessment.

Atler is not the best choice for day-to-day performance evaluation or to manage all elite athletes data in one place. If you need to see current stress and recovery balance you may want to use Firstbeat or Catapult. If you need Athlete Management System — there are options like EDGE10 or Smartabase.

Atler best serves teams and groups of athletes. It doesn’t mean that you cannot use it for other needs, but you may have to find workarounds. For example we have system-level norms for tests. That may make it tricky to use for sport schools: if you setup norms for 15-year old boys, Atler charts will assess data from years ago to current 15-year old norms. You still have dynamics, but won’t get profile correctly assessed for past years. Assessment centers also may not find it perfect. We focus Atler on assessing shape and profile dynamics for relatively stable group of athletes. Not for one-time testing and storing huge database of clients. Probably in that case having Excel template may help with the task good enough.

Pricing

Atler is a startup at an early stage and we are not charging anyone nearest time. During private and public beta releases we will take only open and meaningful feedbacks as payment. We are believers that you pay only when you tried it all, happy with what you see and ready to take a deep dive. In other words Atler will always have a free version, but we plan to offer payment plans for user and organization who scale. Pricing will depend on how heavily they use Atler. Looking at the market right now we say that it will be the most affordable solution. We will have that by focusing on particular coaches tasks and making flexible plans, instead of building huge ‘have it all’ management system.

We design and develop Atler to help athletes achieve their best and let everyone enjoy that beautiful moments of sport competition. We want to make it easier for coaches to design smart and effective training programs. For teams to get data science level of insights about athletes without need to involve Data Analysts. We hope Atler will help us all enjoy what we love in sports the most.

We will be giving access to Atler in rounds of invites. If you want to try it — email us.
