Leaders are persons of impact and influence over others. However, true leaders must first be able to lead themselves effectively to qualify as leading light to others.

Also, leaders need up-to-date data, information, or messages to be able to make effective decisions. Effective decisions lead to effective actions and with effective actions taken on time, you are bound to expect positive results.

Leaders often have multitasked functions or roles to carry out. Some leaders are like first-line teachers, trainers cum coaches, and role models to be copied and emulated like our parents, guardians, and childcare givers in a family setting.

Furthermore, leaders are rational beings. They are to act and direct objectively with facts and figures which are not always available. Hence, they need to be effective in and with their communication and armed with proactive measures to counter negative consequences due to the actions they might have taken and life happened.

Moreover, leaders are relational and systemic beings as well as those they lead. Therefore, effective communication is critical to leaders because we communicate to connect. And we relate to collaborate, cooperate, contribute, and complement to complete one another. We mutually relate to procreate, produce, and profit.

As systemic beings, leaders of organizations function in different capacities and capabilities but they need to harmonize and synchronize their individual and departmental operations with others to produce optimal results for the organization.

These special attributes of man make it imperative that man's communication with one another needs to be harnessed in a way and manner that the message of the communicator to the recipient will deliver the expected results on time which will equally prompt corresponding feedback from the recipient to the communicator.

A well-crafted message that produces the expected results is good but when such results are delivered on time and at the least possible cost it will be better and best. This is where and when we have effective and efficient communication.

Effective communication is a process that guarantees information or message from the sender to receiver is properly crafted and delivered to the receiver who in return gives an appropriate response to the information or message he/she has received.

Effective communication is critical to leaders especially in a corporate setting because effective communication is a life wire of any and every corporate setting as such any glitch in the communication process can lead to a monumental loss to the organization.

Therefore, to guarantee the life of any organization, effective communication skills should be taught from the bottom up all the strata of the organizational leather as well as across the horizontal lines of communication within the organization.

With the total management approach to management, the organizational pyramid is inverted, from the bottom up and it starts with the customers, and suppliers to the least of the organization's workers and staff up to the managing director, directors, and shareholders as well as the society in general.
