Female Founders Day 2018: How It Went Down

December 13th, 2018 was officially deemed Female Founders Day by the City of Boston and we had a party to celebrate. In 2019, we’re hosting them around the country.

2018 was filled with exciting moments for #AtTheTable: In March, we launched with a year’s worth of dinners to satisfy the entire city of Boston. We built an online community to connect our #AtTheTable alumnae with each other between dinners. We even got the City of Boston to deem December 13th Female Founders Day — and we hosted a dinner with 200 female founders to celebrate it.

Imagine a room filled with dozens of intelligent, determined women who are set on changing the world. That was the vibe that we felt on Female Founders Day 2018.

Gathering that evening showed us just how many women entrepreneurs there are in the city of Boston — and, at the same time, how much more there still is to do to lift female founders up.

Not in Boston? We’re expanding Female Founders Day to cities across the US this year. Click here to learn more about how to plan your own.

Here are some of the experiences from women who joined us for the evening..

Anne-Fleur Andrle — Co-Founder and CEO, Jack and Ferdi

I’ll be honest, I was a little intimidated before coming over. I am the co-founder of an early stage startup and am eight months pregnant. Female founders sometimes seem to have it all together, not sharing any struggle, only victories!

Also parties are getting a little hard for me at this stage of the game, but I really wanted to attend because I firmly believe in the mission of #AtTheTable.

And that’s actually what I love about the community: no matter what, the rule is to be honest and true. It makes the conversations so much more valuable.

Female Founders Day means support and acknowledgment from our community that what we do matters. And that’s a lot.

Jack and Ferdi offers experiences to help business travelers uncover the cultural heritage of local communities while enabling them to have a positive impact for themselves, their families, and the communities they visit. Learn more about it here.

Kris Ravenscroft — Founder and CEO, Beauty Gourmet

The #AtTheTable dinner was as if your best friend threw a party in your honor. The respect for the accomplishments and struggles of female entrepreneurs showed through every carefully thought out detail.

I also learned a great tip that will really help my business (thanks Jess!). This type of sharing of resources and knowledge is at the heart of the purpose of this group.

They truly want to make sure that female founders get what they need to succeed.

There has never been a better time to be a female founder. I knew I finally had the experience, skills and wisdom to knock my business out of the park.

This day certifies Boston’s commitment to supporting the unique needs of female founders and lets me know I am in a great city to be building my business.

There are a lot of incredibly smart women doing amazing things to make the world a better place.

Robyn Parets — Founder and CEO, Pretzel Kids

I had a fabulous time at the dinner. I met some women in real life that I had only connected with online, and I also got to catch up with some women I met through another #AtTheTable dinner.

I would absolutely recommend a dinner to someone, I had a blast and met some great women! Some of whom have become friends and helped me with my business growth plans.

It’s also great to see that the city of Boston has recognized female founders for all our hard work.

#AtTheTable helped inspire this day and I expect there will be more events tied into Female Founders Day for years to come.

Opportunities to get together in real life are so important (and fun!) and I look forward to more events like this!
