During our latest trip the Pyrénées, I took the kids for a day to skiing at Saint Lary. Having skied for many years in the Lake Tahoe area, one of the nice things about the Pyrénées is that cost of lift tickets and equipment rental is much lower.

An adult lift ticket is about $50. On our way from Aulon to Saint Lary, we stopped at Kangri Sports to rent skis and boots for the kids for about $30 for the day.

Saint Lary is solid, medium-sized station with 100 km of slopes and thirty ski lifts. We had beautiful weather, and overall it was perfect conditions. The one complaint is that there is a lot of traversing and not as much open skiing as I’d prefer. The last run of the day was an one-long traverse to get the bottom along a narrow piste that was quite precarious at times and exhausting.

Still, when we did find some open runs, it was great. And I’d definitely go back for a day trip. For longer stays, I’d suggest looking elsewhere.
