“I have a personality which is all over the place,” Damjan says.

In addition to his open personality, he finds it easy to understand people and show empathy. “I’m just very accepting to pretty much anything. I’m very open-minded about everything. That is what people like about me,” Damjan says.

Damjan is a freshman planning to major in Computer Science and Mathematics. He already has experience in the computer science field. During his high school years, he studied in a technical vocational school in Bitola, Macedonia. Due to his success in school he got a scholarship to the best computer science faculty college in his country. Additionally, Damjan has taken part in a programming internship. In the meantime, he has been learning web design on his own. “It [the mathematics major] buffs up my computer science major, just adds more credentials to my CV,” Damjan says.

Damjan enjoys coming up with plans regarding the future. He is very specific about how a plan needs to be structured and created. He starts off with rough ideas on how he imagines the future should look like. Afterwards, he builds a shorter plan that is specific and neat. Damjan says that this helps him adapt to changes quickly and on time in order to achieve the major goal he is looking forward to.

“I think that short-term planning is one of the rare cases when you have to be incredibly specific,” Damjan says.

For Damjan, following your own plans is not always an expression of freedom. He says there is a need of restrictions, especially in the short term. This helps you put limits to yourself. The goal of planning is achieving the end goal and this might often result in creating borders for oneself. “You will obviously feel free when you achieve your goal and the only way to get there is by restraining yourself,” Damjan says.
