Stefan Genev is 19 years old and is a first-year student at AUBG. He is from Sofia, Bulgaria and has two younger twin brothers which he adores and wants to be a good role model for them. As a freshman, he feels overwhelmed by the amount of freedom university life offers. Stefan still hasn’t decided what majors he will study. For now, he is considering doing a double major in Political Science and Business Administration.

Even though he wants to study these subjects, his personality is very artistic. As a child, he was very creative. “Apparently, I was always this artistic type of person, always very expressive and I guess interesting,” he said. In middle school, he started going to national and international writing competitions. That is when he found out his passion for creative writing. Nowadays, he is mainly writing poetry. “I think writing poetry in Bulgarian works best to express my feelings. If I have strong feelings about something, I prefer writing it down. I really haven’t shown many people my newest creations, but I think I’m a bit shy when it comes to poetry,” he shared.

Besides his talent in writing, Stefan likes playing the piano in his free time. He is currently taking a piano course at AUBG to further develop this skill which he learned from scratch when he was 17 years old. “Really, I just got curious because I’ve always been interested in music. I’m an avid music listener. I like literally every genre of music and I love immersing in it. Every aspect of my life could be wrapped with music.”

Another creative hobby of Stefan’s is making videos for his YouTube channel. The ideas for the videos are very spontaneous. He and his friends have a lot of fun time in the process of writing the scripts and shooting the videos. “Part of me does it so people can see it and have fun. Another part is just for my satisfaction because I am the one doing it and it’s a fun process. That is what is happening now with my newest video and I am so excited.”

Despite these hobbies, Stefan is also interested in human nature and how the world works. This is one of the reasons why he wants to study Politics. “One of the parts of politics is to study people on a psychological level, then another is studying their relationships on a more international level. Finding out the different ways countries and cultures work is really fascinating.”

Thinking about what he can associate himself with, Stefan again comes back to the topic of human nature. “I’m just going to say a person. I am infatuated with people and people’s behavior and way of thinking. I always talked about the uniqueness of the person in my essays. Whatever the topic, I always connected it with this. I guess this really stems from my way of thinking and perspective.”
