If you have passed by the café at AUBG, you most certainly know it is filled with students, professors and local people. However, if you look closer, one particular girl stands out in the crowd. Most of the time, the blue-eyed Aleksandra Ivanova wears a big smile on her face, surrounded by her new friends.

Aleksandra describes herself as a passionate, loyal and extroverted person. Among her favourite activities are singing and playing tennis.

“I love to sing and practise different kinds of sports. I am very sociable and love being around people all the time,” she says.

Aleksandra says she considers her admission into AUBG among her most significant achievements. Before getting accepted into the university, she already had high expectations for what this place has to offer her. Now that her first semester is almost over, Aleksandra says she could not be happier with her decision to study here.

“My expectations were high, but it turned out that I like it more now than I did before. This is my place. There I feel myself, and I really like the friendly atmosphere. I just feel free and independent,” Aleksandra says.

AUBG allows her to combine the best of both worlds — maintaining a social life and studying and pursuing her dreams.

She is happy with her social life and the incredible friendships she has been able to create. Even though most of her friends at AUBG are Bulgarians, she is eager to make meaningful friendships with international students.

Aleksandra, who is originally from Sofia, says she still hasn’t felt homesick. Unlike other students, she can travel back and forth to her hometown and spend time with the people she loves.

“I am having a really good time in AUBG, and I am not thinking a lot about my life in Sofia,” she adds.

Aleksandra feels that apart from enriching friendships and welcoming atmosphere, AUBG has changed her in a positive way by making her more independent and making her feel far more confident than before.

She still hasn’t chosen a major, but she is interested in Business Administration. Once Aleksandra graduates from AUBG, she hopes to pursue a Master’s Degree in the United States.

She is also grateful for her university experience so far despite the Covid-19 pandemic. She prefers to remain positive and focus on the good things this year has brought her.

“The only thing that I don’t like about this situation is that we are online and the whole point of studying in this type of university is gone because most of the students didn’t even come on campus and we need to study and have online lectures instead of face to face,” Aleksandra concludes with a smile on her face.
