After a much-anticipated release of Season 3 earlier this year, Epic Games’ Fortnite Season 4 is finally here to stay. Dubbed “Nexus War”, this season announces their partnership with Marvel (confirming the rumors/leaks from Season 3) and will be the year’s biggest season yet. Excited as we are? Good! Let’s break down the latest from Epic Games in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 4.

HAPPENINGS: NEXUS WAR

The latest Marvel-focused season catapults heroes and villains alike into Fortnite. Trying to stop Galactus, a cosmic entity known for devouring worlds, the two historical enemies form an unlikely alliance. Bound together for a common goal, you’ll head out on fantastic quests to learn how to stop Fortnite’s biggest threat yet.

To do so, you’ll explore many challenges. Like the mysterious “Wolverine” challenge. Take to the map and avoid danger while you look for indications of Wolverine’s claw marks around the base. New challenges will emerge each following week, eventually making the Wolverine skin available for use. From what we’ve seen, it’s looking more robust than last season’s Aquaman challenges.

“One of the most exciting things about the crossover is how naturally it keeps a foot both in Fortnite and the Marvel Universe,” says Marvel Comics and NEXUS WAR editor Mark Basso.

We’re excited for the new storyline and features. Keep reading for more specifics!

MAP TRANSFORMATIONS: MARVEL MOODINESS

Despite the rumors, there are some changes to the map this season. Though not similar to previous season’s updates, the changes are significant. Many of them play on the Marvel element too. Check out the latest map changes.

Helicarrier
The most noticeable change to Nexus War is the spawn zone. Now located on top of a giant hovering aircraft carrier, there’s secrets, new areas, and all sorts of easter eggs to be found in the latest launching lobby.

Sentinel Graveyard
If you venture up beyond the mountains, you’ll find an abandoned Sentinel graveyard. Though there’s no information yet as to why they’re deactivated. But we’re expecting more updates as the season marches on.

Doom’s Domain
Pleasant Park is no more! Now Doctor Doom has his own map-area, so check it out. There’s a haunted house, secret hoard, and an only-accessible-by-Doctor-Doom location. Make sure to defeat Doctor Doom to keep up with the latest challenges!

NEW PLAYABLE MARVEL HEROES

This season brings seven confirmed Battle Pass skins, as well as the introduction of superpowers and Marvel-themed surroundings. But who are the characters? The proposed list includes: Iron Man, Storm, Mystique, Doctor Doom, Groot, and She-Hulk, and Thor. Each of these characters includes special weapons and superhero abilities. Imagine being able to use Groot’s Bramble Shield, Doctor Doom’s Mythical Bomb or Silver Surfer’s Board at will.

You’ll need to find each item in its own place. Doctor Doom reisdes in Doom’s Domain, ironically known as Pleasant Park. You’ll have to take on Doctor Doom in order to secure his mythic abilities. Groot’s Bramble Shield and Silver Surfer’s Board are different, however. Look for these items at the Quinjet Patrol landing sites. But be quick. The items spawn the instant the Battle Bus flies away.

NEW FISHING MECHANICS

Despite the new Marvel premise, this Season’s biggest update is definetly the fishing mechanics. There’s a new Pro Fishing Rod, which will offer more damage than the Harpoon Gun. In addition to the new physics and system, there are 6 new fish types to catch. Each fish offers it’s own effect, but you must use the Pro Fishing Rod.

Vendetta Flopper: Mark a nearby enemy.
Spicy Fish: Gain a speed boost.
Hop Flopper: Benefit from low-gravity.
Jellyfish: Give nearby players health and shields
Shield Fish: Gain a shield.
Thermal Fish: Gain visibility across the entire playing field.

BATTLEPASS & LATEST UPDATES

With the new season of Fortnite comes a new BattlePass! Look forward to new skins, gliders, emotes, loading screens, pickaxes, and more — each with their own Marvel-related spin.

If you’ve been following online, you might have seen the recent legal troubles between Apple and Fortnite. Didn’t see their recent announcement? Essentially, Apple is blocking Fortnite updates and new installs on the App Store. Apple claimed that they will terminate Fortnite’s development for Apple devices. As you can imagine, Fortnite’s newly released Chapter 2 — Season 4 update (v14.00), will not release on iOS and macOS. You’ll likely still be able to play, but won’t be able to upgrade to the newest Season. Fingers crossed this is resolved by Season 5!

No matter what, we’re just excited to see the latest Marvel additions. Got any ideas about on Season 4? Let us know in the comments. And if you need some tips and tricks to gain an edge on the competition, check out our in-depth surround sound guide here.
