If you’re an avid gamer, chances are you dabble in some Apex Legends. If you’re wanting to step up your game, or even just try out the game for the first time, you’re going to need to make sure your sound is up to speed. An errant footstep or a missed gunshot can mean the difference between death and victory. We’ve scoured GameSpot, Reddit, and the Apex Legends FAQ, and in this blog we’ll cover some of the nuances of making sure your game sound will win.

Plug It In, Plug It In
OK. This one’s easy. But you might forget. Make sure your headphones’ cables are plugged into the correct inputs. Or, if you’re using Bluetooth, make sure that you’re paired with the device you’ll be playing on. Now that that’s out of the way, let’s move on to…

Max Out Your SFX
When you’re on the settings page, make sure to drop the in-game music low, change the dialogue to 30–50% volume, and keep sound effect volume at 100%. This will allow you to talk to your teammates, listen to ambient sounds, and maintain full control over whatever is going on in your environment.

Open Mic Night
Let’s say you’re in a mid-game scuffle. The last thing you want to do is reach for your push-to-talk button on your headphones or desktop to communicate with your teammates. An easy solution to this is to change the mic setting in Apex Legends to “Open.” This will allow your speech to free-flow into your mic. Just make sure you’re not in a noisy environment when selecting this option.

No Sound Whatsoever?
You just might be doing it wrong. It sucks, but try resetting everything. Your computer, Apex Legends, your sound drivers. Apex Legends sets profiles for audio at the beginning of the game, and it might require a total reinstall to enable any changes to your settings. Unfortunately, this isn’t an option to switch from the in-game settings menu, but at least we’ve told you now.

Make Sure Your External Audio Driver is Working
Hearing distortion or bad audio? You might have your driver improperly set-up. Getting Apex Legends to communicate with your PC’s audio driver and your headphones’ audio driver can be a bit of a struggle. But it doesn’t have to be. There are surround sound drivers for Apex Legends with helpful install videos to seamlessly integrate 5.1 or 7.1 sound.

While there’s not a ton of audio settings available for Apex Legends, tweaking the game to its fullest is what will enable you to take advantage over your enemies. Apex Legends has set a new bar on audio design for Battle Royale games. It’s never been more important to hear and be heard, and that’s why we make Audio Royale. If these techniques don’t work, or if you’re unsatisfied with the results. Go ahead. Try Audio Royale. We think you’ll love it.
