Season 8 puts the “Arr” in Fortnite. Forgive the pun. We’re just excited about the new Blackhart skin, pirate ships, and volcano. Now that Season 7’s ice-world has melted-over, it’s time to dive straight into strategy for battening down the hatches and escaping Season 8’s storm. Let’s take a look at some of the biggest changes for Season 8!

Huge Map Changes

The entire starboard side of the Fortnite Season 8 map has undergone some drastic changes. Wailing Woods is now Sunny Steps; Cargo Container Park has walked the plank; Lazy Links is now Lazy Lagoon, pirate ship and all. Make sure to check out the volcano, with lava and steam-vents — perfect for jumping around. But what about the block? Yep, no worries. It’s right on top of what used to be the motel.

Pirate Cannons

Avast! Ye olde cannons can be found around the map and onboard the pirate ship in Lazy Lagoon. Push the cannons into new positions to aim them, and open fire! Jumping in the cannon turns you into a cannon ball, allowing you to damage any enemy structures you hit. Cannonballs and players can plow through objects before crashing, delivering knockback to nearby players. Direct hits deal a whopping 100 damage, so take your mark!

Season 7 Items Have Been Vaulted

Planes, The Sneaky Snowman, Chiller Grenade, Shopping Cart, and All-Terrain Kart have been moved to the vault. It’s not a final goodbye though, vaulting an item doesn’t mean it’s gone for good. Hopefully we see some of these make a return in regular modes or as an LMT.

New Party Assist Mode

Party assist features now help you complete challenges using everyone in your party. If someone in your squad no-scopes a headshot, you get clout too. A few catches though: it only works with members you add to your squad via the lobby screen; and, you can’t fill your party with randoms or use in large team modes like Team Rumble. If you’re struggling with a challenge, this is an excellent way to hack it!

Buried Treasure…?

Yes, the lore of pirates wouldn’t be complete without some secret treasure. It’s Season 8’s rarest chest yet, and only located in the block. You can find it in the lower levels, towards the west in the middle of the room. It always contains one gold item, but once it’s opened, it’s gone! Get there fast!
