Where the original “Rockstar” had a climbing guitar line, the track was equally outfitted with eerie background vocals and trap drums, the guitar-only version is triply affecting. Durk takes his banger hit and turns it into one of his most emotionally forward tracks to date. Dripping in pain and Auto-Tune alike, Lil Durk’s singing reaches out from the speakers and seizes your heart. His street tales and street dreams sound all the more touching and impactful over riffs from guitarist Soleil Laurent, who closes out the performance with a brief and gritty solo.
