First, let’s get the basics out of the way: what is a metaverse?

The concept of the metaverse can be simply explained as a form of virtual reality, but the potential implications of a full-blown metaverse, like the ones Facebook and Microsoft have ambitions for, have the wider power to disrupt our everyday lives. The metaverse implies a virtual place where your avatar coexists with the avatars of your friends and anyone else in the world to play games, attend events and so much more. Ultimately, the metaverse presents the possibility of an alternate world that you can theoretically live in.

With the ability to change so many fundamental aspects of how we not only interact with each other, but also how we exist in the world, many people are calling this the “next internet.”

Cubemint acts as a bridge to connect virtual users with users who are currently in the physical space, by giving them a parallel space connected to the actual physical location. For example, a person who is walking through Time Square can share that experience and talk with users in the audio metaverse as they occupy the virtual space together. Neither of them are in the same physical space, but they are in a shared audio metaverse space.

Now, what does it mean to do this in an audio-only context?

The metaverse is made up of independent spaces called “Cubes,” which are sized 10 meters by 10 meters and mapped out into the real world. The audio metaverse experience seamlessly integrates into your daily life; just put in your earbuds and enter a parallel world with as many people as you like.

Because there are no extraneous visuals that your attention has to stay locked into, the metaverse can actually become an enhancement to the actual world you’re experiencing at that moment.

Earbuds are all you need to enter the audio metaverse

The Cubes are created utilizing Spatial Audio to create a deeply immersive experience, where you can really feel like you’re with your friends exploring a dynamic space together, some with mysterious creatures moving around on their own. You’re free to move around within the Cube, get closer to the creatures and friends you want to talk to or go away and get a little quiet time for yourself.

The benefit to this is that your connection with the physical reality around is uninterrupted. Because there are no extraneous visuals that your attention has to stay locked into, the metaverse can actually become an enhancement to the actual world you’re experiencing at that moment.

Another crucial point here is that focusing on audio makes it accessible to people with partial or full blindness and other people who are sensitive to visual stimulants.

The Audio Metaverse also has a much lower hurdle to entry for users and creators. Have a pair of earbuds? Get in there, you can already experience this new world!
