Customer’s core business as an insurance provider is to serve policyholders with exceptional medical professional liability insurance products and services.

The problem faced by the customer

  • Legacy SAP BO tool was priced higher which was a cost overhead for the customer.
  • Need to migrate all the SAP BO to Power BI/SSRS in a short timeline and decommission legacy system.
  • Many legacy reports developed needs to be revalidated for the business needs and needed consolidation and cleanup.
  • Wanted to unleash and explore the capabilities of tabular and multidimensional data to design and build reports and dashboards.

Augusta’s BI team helped in following activities coming up with a more scalable and maintainable BI architecture

  • Assessed the existing BI architecture to identify the gaps and come up with a robust and scalable architecture, for example, we built a presentation layer that will be a plug an play for any BI tool on top of it.
  • Consolidating 80+ legacy BI reports to 35 reports. This involved cleaning up a few old reports those are hardly used, consolidating BI reports pertained to the same business area.
  • Enable self-service BI capability by creating tabular cubes from SSAS. This helped the user to pivot the data quickly by accessing the tabular cubes.
  • Create a common theme for all BI reports to help expedite the development.
  • Use of accelerators for data comparison between legacy reports and new reports where apple to apple comparison was a need.
  • Provide user training and adequate documentation for the users to adapt to Power BI tool.

  • Augusta’s accelerators making a difference — Tools and accelerators developed by Augusta helped in expediting the migration activities. Repetitive and mundane activities like data comparison between legacy and new reports were cut down by using the accelerators.
  • Self Service BI — Empowering business users to create reports for them the make quick decisions by slicing and dicing the data. This also helps users to work together for better productivity
  • Improved user experience — Customer expectations are higher than ever now that there’s more competition in the Insurance world, and organizations must ensure that both internal and external users are retained and feel it easy to use the BI reports and dashboards.
  • Optimize price — The cost of SAP BO was very high compared to MSBI (SSRS/Power BI). By migrating the reports from legacy BO to Power BI was helping the organization in cutting down the overall cost especially with licensing and ongoing maintenance.
