My Favourite Leonard Cohen Songs
(in ascending order)
Sisters of Mercy (1967)
They brought me their comfort and later they brought me their song:
Joan of Arc (1971)
I love your solitude, I love your pride
Stories of the Street (1967)
We are so small between the stars, so large against the sky
So Long, Marianne (1967)
To the Norwegian Marianne Ihler whom Cohen met on the Greek island of Hydra:
Hallelujah
Penned by Cohen, Jeff Buckley made Hallelujah the greatest lovesong blockbuster cover of all time:
There were EIGHTY original verses before Cohen pared it down. Buckley omits a couple of verses of Cohen’s published version at the end.
