Live Photos launches on Aura
We’ve all heard the saying: a picture’s worth a thousand words. Behind each photo is a story, a happy, sad, or somehow important moment captured and frozen in time. You look at a photo and you’re instantly transported to that exact moment.
Imagine if you could share that moment with someone halfway across the world? Now you can with Live Photos on Aura.
Live Photos record what happens 1.5 seconds before and after you take a picture. What you get is more than just a great photo, it tells a story through movement. When you display a Live Photo on your Aura Frame, you get to experience it as if you were there.
Seeing a Live Photo on your Aura is magic — like, Harry Potter moving paintings-level magic. You need to see it to believe it. But getting to relive your favorite memories every day is just one perk. The real life-changing thing here is that with Aura, you can send Live Photos to someone else’s frame and they too can experience that moment.

You take a Live Photo just like you do a traditional photo. Follow the steps below to get started.
Take a Live Photo
- Open the Camera app
- Make sure that your Camera is set to photo mode
- Hold your iPhone still
- Tap the Live Photos icon at the top of the screen
Live Photos is on by default on your iPhone 6s and later. If you want to take a still image instead, tap on the Live Photos icon again to turn off Live Photos. You can preserve your Camera settings so that Live Photos is always on or off. Go to Settings > Photos & Camera > Preserve Settings.
See your photos come to life
To play a Live Photo on your Aura Frame, gesture to the photo or move your face close to the frame in front of the sensor window. The Live Photo will begin playing automatically.
Relive the moment instantly in the Aura App
View Live Photos in the Aura App by clicking into the photo and then holding your finger down on the photo to play.
- Open the Aura App
- Click on a photo to open photo detail view
- Tap on the photo and hold to play
