Adequate water supply is one of the primary concerns for many communities around the world. As most of us know, water can be scarce in certain parts of the world, and many people are affected by droughts and water shortages every day.

According to the World Health Organization, 1 in 3 people lack access to improved drinking water sources. That is nearly 700 million people who lack access to safe drinking water. A huge number for sure.

And, if you consider that almost 80% of water supplied to a community returns to the ecosystem as wastewater, it makes sense that we need to be smart about how we use freshwater.

You might be thinking about your own water consumption now. Is it more or less compared to a year ago? Have you gone a whole day without turning on the tap? Will your next glass of water be eco-friendly? What if you could save as much water as 30 showers (by just filling up a giant water tank and using that)?

These are all great questions, and there is indeed a lot of conversation about water conservation today. But, it can be a mistake to talk only about preserving water for our personal use. Instead, we must also be mindful of the water we use to grow our foods and make our products.

Wh?

Unprecedented population explosion.

According to a 2010 study by McKinsey, early projections estimate the urban population of India to expand twice as quickly as in the past. Meaning, we are looking at almost 590 million people living in cities by 2030-a worrisome statistic for an already water-stressed country.

What will the water industry look like in a decade? Will there be enough capacity to fulfill the rising demands for water?

There is mounting evidence that we will come up short.

That is why we need to talk about it.

There are solutions out there, and it does start with awareness.

Let’s talk about it.
