What 65 Senior Engineers Were Doing on a Friday Night. Case Study.
WHY WE DID THIS?
Blockchain topic is hot. More and more developers are getting interested and looking to enter the community. But since the Blockchain industry is still new, the community is yet to be built.
This is how we came up with two emergency issues: education and community. To solve them, we started regular Blockchain Hackathons called “Crypto Heroes”.
HOW WE DID THIS?
We gather developers with different backgrounds and give them the chance to learn the basics of Solidity and to get a hands-on experience by completing the project assessed by and experts in two days.
The Hackathon was hands-on, collaborative effort. After the theoretical introduction, the participants got the practical task, split in teams and started to collaborate, discuss and form solutions to accomplish their first project on Solidity using Smart contracts.
During the first day of the Hackathon, the participants were given two talks from the Blockchain experts, got introduced to technology, received their task and started to work on it in teams.
On the second day, the participants had more talks from the experts about Smart contracts optimization and Security.
After this, they had Q&A session with the experts in order to fix and optimize the code that they have accomplished by that time.
In the end of Hackathon the teams presented their projects to the community and experts.
WHO PARTICIPATED?
More than 65 participants joined forces to build real project on Solidity. They are experienced developers with the backgrounds in different languages, in average of 5 years of working experience in software development. Most common degrees in Computer Science & Engineering, Most common technical skills: Java, CSS, Python, AngularJS, Backbone JS, JQuery, NodeJS, Ruby.
RESULTS:
65 attendees ready to collaborate and consider the offers from employers.
Community of over 500 people who signed up for Facebook-event. Tickets were 5 days before event.
4 experts interested in giving speeches and mentoring at next Hackathons.
6 completed projects on Solidity with different creative approaches.
Beginning of the big story that will involve more and more people into Crypto Heroes community.
