You may have noticed that IDEX has been experiencing performance issues over the past few days. While we have done our best to communicate these issues through our social media and Telegram support channels, we would like to use this post as an opportunity to provide a little more insight into what is going on behind the scenes.

First—we sincerely apologize for any inconveniences that have arisen as a result. We could not have achieved our current level of growth and success without our amazing community’s support, and we hate to deliver a poor trading experience at any level in return.

That is why we are working around the clock to address the root causes, and we are happy to say that we have already made some significant steps toward improving IDEX’s performance in both the near and long term.

What happened? — Our growth over the past couple weeks has exploded, with our active users more than doubling and our volume increasing 4x. This growth is straining some areas of the system and we’re struggling to support the traffic. We have been working diligently over the past few months to resolve the issues, but developing the right solutions takes time and patience.

What have we been doing to resolve it? — In the short term we’ve deployed patches that provide incremental improvements in performance. We’ve increased our hardware capacity and fine-tuned the available settings to help maximize the throughput of our existing design.

Additionally we have:

  1. Tripled our engineering team with a focus on adding talent that specializes in high-throughput, high-performance systems.
  2. Kept the core team focused on transitioning to a serverless setup that will allow for indefinite scaling in the future.
  3. Implemented an Ethereum node cluster to consistently and reliably broadcast transactions and read updates from the Ethereum blockchain.
  4. Improved data transmission efficiency reducing IDEX’s initial load time to under one second.
  5. Started interviewing additional support staff to add more resources across all our communications channels.

We understand this this is a frustrating experience, and our entire team is working hard to get IDEX back to providing the level of service you have come to expect. Our long-time members know that we consistently deliver results, and we appreciate your patience as we work to do it once again. As always, your funds will remain safe throughout any maintenance due to the nature of our design.

We will continue to respond to our users over the coming days, and we apologize if we are slow to get to you as we continue to increase our support resources as needed. If you haven’t already, we suggest joining our 24/7 Telegram support channel as it is currently the best place for up-to-date information and help.

We greatly appreciate your understanding as we work hard to resolve these issues, and thank you for supporting IDEX!

Special thanks to Alex Wearn and Brian Fernalld for helping craft this post.
