This week saw developments in the global NFT ecosystem with The Centre Pompidou, the biggest modern art museum in Europe, and the home of France’s National Museum of Modern Art, unveiling its plans for a new exhibition that will explore the connection between art and blockchain technology. This event will showcase NFT pieces from prominent projects such as Autoglyphs and CryptoPunks, alongside works from 12 other digital artists.

In addition to big organisations like 9GAG spent 800 ETH on NFTs and Giannis Antetokounmpo NFT Sells for Record-Breaking $187K on Sorare NBA. This Week’s Global News

  • Recently, the social media platform 9GAG from Memeland has been acquiring high-priced Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) non-fungible tokens (NFTs). On February 6th, 9GAG spent almost 800 ETH to purchase eight BAYC NFTs, each with rare hat accessory traits.
  • Louis Roederer, Fleur de Miraval, and Henri Giraud, three Champagne houses, will sell “wiNeFTs” on the WineChain platform. Several renowned French estates, as well as Germany’s Egon Müller and Italy’s Graham’s Port, Ceretto, Parusso, and Roberto Voerzio, are also participating.
  • Illuvium, the decentralized gaming studio, has announced a new ecosystem expansion, known as Illuvium: Beyond. This new expansion will introduce a customizable NFT collection called Illuvitars, which is set to be launched in early March with the assistance of industry giants such as Binance, ImmutableX, and Chainlink.
  • Hermes International SCA (HRMS.PA) has requested a U.S. jury to rule in favor of their claim that a non-fungible token creator infringed on their trademark for Birkin bags. The trial, which began on Monday, saw the “MetaBirkins” maker’s lawyers argue that the images created were a form of art.
  • Limit Break is preparing for a live NFT mint event during its Super Bowl LVII commercial. The company is minting 10,000 DigiDaigaku Dragons live for holders to obtain. Despite the crypto industry receiving less Super Bowl ad spots this year, Limit Break CEO Gabriel Leydon is enthusiastically counting down on his Twitter feed for the release of his company’s advertisement.
  • Sorare NBA, a fantasy basketball game powered by NFTs and licensed officially, achieved a new landmark on Sunday with the sale of a 1/1 NFT of Giannis Antetokounmpo for $187,000 worth of ETH. This sale, by far the highest on the platform, is a significant milestone for the relatively new game.
  • WeTransfer, one of the leading global file transfer companies with a 2021 revenue of $77 million, has teamed up with Swiss blockchain firm Minima to enter the NFT market. Minima, founded in Zug, Switzerland in 2018, is part of the town’s thriving crypto startup ecosystem. This marks WeTransfer’s first foray into the world of NFTs.
  • The NFT market is witnessing a resurgence in 2023, as evidenced by the increasing sales and trading volume data in January. Two more indicators of this rebound emerged in the last 24 hours, with single Ethereum NFTs from renowned projects like CryptoPunks and Bored Ape Yacht Club selling for over $1 million worth of ETH each.
  • FanCraze, a Non-Fungible Token (NFT) platform with a focus on cricket, has established its first foothold in English and Welsh domestic cricket by signing deals with 12 of the 18 first-class counties.
  • The Bugatti group, renowned for its luxury accessories and luggage, has launched a portal enabling SHIBOSHI NFT collection owners to claim their associated physical items. The brand made the announcement via Twitter, stating that NFT holders can access their attached physical items via their holder’s dashboards.
  • The Ordinals project has achieved an impressive milestone of 11,000 NFT mints on the Bitcoin network in a matter of weeks since its launch. While a section of the Bitcoin community has criticized NFTs on the network, proponents have highlighted its innovative potential and ability to fuel the next bull run. However, critics have expressed concerns about the security risks and unsuitability of NFTs for Bitcoin.
  • Pop and R&B sensation Rihanna is preparing to launch a limited Non-Fungible Token (NFT) collection of her global hit song “B*tch Better Have My Money” (BBHMM). Rihanna’s platinum-certified songs will be available for streaming on the renowned NFT platform, Anotherblock, which will also distribute the associated royalty revenue.
  • Moonpay, a fiat-to-crypto onramp company, has announced a multi-year partnership with the non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace, Looksrare. As per the agreement, Looksrare will permit its marketplace users to buy and sell crypto assets through Moonpay’s services.
  • Seedify is an organization that provides access to funding, community, and partnership building to empower innovators and project developers. They offer a complete support system to help bring premier blockchain games, NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens), and metaverses to the community. They have events such as IGOs (Initial Gaming offerings) and INOs (Initial NFTs offering) to promote these projects. Seedify is now expanding to include AI-related project IDOs (Initial Dex Offerings).
  • Gamma, a company that specializes in no-code creator tools, has launched a no-code platform for creating Bitcoin NFTs. The new platform from Gamma simplifies the process of creating ordinal inscriptions for Bitcoin.
