2022 Austin Film Critics Association Award Nominations

The AFCA presents their shortlist for the 2022 awards season

The Austin Film Critics Association (AFCA) announced its 2022 awards nominations today.

Everything Everywhere All at Once leads the pack with nominations in 11 categories— including Best Director, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Ensemble, and Best Original Screenplay. Other films vying for multiple wins include The Banshees of Inisherin (nominations in 7 categories), Tár, and RRR (nominations in 4 categories).

We continue to celebrate the emergence of new creative talents, with nominations for Charlotte Wells (Aftersun), John Patton Ford (Emily the Criminal), Dean Fleischer Camp (Marcel the Shell with Shoes On), Domee Shi (Turning Red) and Chloe Okuno (Watcher) in our Best First Film category. We also celebrate the work of those filmmakers based in our own city of Austin, TX, with this year’s nominees for the Best Austin Film award.

The 10 best films of 2022, as voted by our membership, will be unveiled along with the rest of the winners on January 10th.

As part of the organization’s annual voting, the Austin Film Critics Association awards titles with local ties — works made by directors who live in Austin. This award is distinct to our group of critics, recognizing the talent of Austin filmmakers, as we celebrate the best films of the year.

The AFS Cinema here in Austin, TX, will be hosting a special screening of the winning film from this category on January 22nd.

The AFCA will announce the 2022 award winners, including the Austin Film Award, their Top 10 Films of 2022, and special awards on Tuesday, Jan 10th.
