The AFCA presents their winners list for the 2023 awards season, including the top 10 best films

The Austin Film Critics Association (AFCA) announced its 2023 awards today. Oppenheimer leads the way, winning 8 awards from its 10 nominations — including Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Score, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, and Best Ensemble. Out of reach was the Best Film award, which went to Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon.

Acting award winners include Lily Gladstone as Best Actress for Killers of the Flower Moon, Cillian Murphy as Best Actor for Oppenheimer, with co-star Robert Downey Jr. taking the Best Supporting Actor prize. The Best Supporting Actress award went to Da’Vine Joy Randolph for her work in The Holdovers.

Other major awards include Celine Song for Best First Film and Best Original Screenplay (Past Lives), and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse winning Best Animated Feature. Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie was awarded Best Documentary, while Godzilla Minus One won Best International Film.

The winner of this year’s Robert R. “Bobby” McCurdy Memorial Breakthrough Artist Award is Lily Gladstone for her memorable work in Killers of the Flower Moon, The Unknown Country, Fancy Dance, and Quantum Cowboys.
