AUSTIN, Texas — Austin Anthem, the only official Major League Soccer (MLS) Supporters Group in Austin, released its Voters Guide for the 2018 municipal elections yesterday. The guide includes information on stated candidate positions in the Austin Mayor’s race and Austin City Council races, as well as additional information on Proposition J. Austin Anthem developed the Voters Guide to allow local soccer supporters to make a fully-informed choice as they vote in the November 2018 election.

“Members of our supporters group are committed to engaging in their community, and understand the importance of elections, and in ensuring that they cast their vote for the candidates who share their values on every issue, including professional soccer,” said Josh Babetski, President of Austin Anthem. “We pulled information together from candidate forums and other sources to paint the most complete picture of where candidates stand on the opportunity we have before us to bring MLS to Austin.”

“The most amazing part of the soccer debate was seeing a whole new part of Austin participate in the process,” added Jimmy Flannigan, City Council Member for District 6. “I’m excited to see civic participation become a core value of Austin Anthem. Democracy works best when people are informed and vote all the way down the ballot!”

Election Day is Tuesday, November 6. Early voting began yesterday, and will continue through November 2. Travis County saw record turnout on the first day of early voting, as many voters are especially passionate about candidates and issues on the ballot in this election. Austin residents who live in Travis or Williamson County can vote at any early voting location in their respective counties.

Though the Voters Guide was prepared by Austin Anthem using the best available public information, Austin Anthem welcomes additional information from members of the soccer community and elected officials, and the group will update the Guide as notable information warrants.
