Austin Anthem Podcast Notes: March 18, 2020

Here’s a rundown of the March 17, 2020 episode of the Austin Anthem Podcast. You can subscribe to the podcast or listen directly through the media page on AustinAnthem.org.

It’s More Than Just the Game
We had originally planned to record this show at our Celebration of the Beautiful Game event during SXSW. Over the last few days, things have become more serious and extra safety measures needed to be taken. We considered not recording this week because in the grand scheme of things, soccer is not important, and this podcast is even less important. In the end, we decided to go ahead and put out a show because for a lot of us, and a lot of you, soccer is an escape from the daily pressures of life.

If you’re looking to give back locally, we have a few ideas. The Stand with Austin Fund was created by Austin Community Foundation to receive charitable donations to support nonprofits assisting individuals and small businesses most negatively impacted by the cancellation of SXSW and least able to recover on their own. The Central Texas Food Bank is providing meals to those in the most need. Meals on Wheels and United Way for Greater Austin continue to support the most vulnerable in our community in a very challenging time.

Live From Oskar Blues
On the last episode, the guys recorded live from Oskar Blues, just across the street from McKalla Stadium as part of Anthem’s First Kick Watch Party. Later in the day, Claudio Reyna and Josh Wolff showed up with pizza and to chat with fans at the brewery.

Austin Fc hosted a Meet and Greet at Valentina’s Tex Mex BBQ
We played several clips from the meet & greet. They included updates on ticket sales, timeline on the training facility, and both Josh & Claudio’s reactions to their time in Austin so far.
