For many of us, we’re about to finish our first month of spending a ton of time at home. Some of us are introverts or homebodies and are better suited for the “new normal”— some of us might be more extroverted and bouncing off the walls missing fate-to-face contact. Some have found have an abundance of free time and may be struggling to fill it and some are barely keeping up with work/life/home/school all blended together into exhausting 18 hour days. We can’t spend time together outside, holidays can’t be spent the usual friends and family, and there’s no clear answer on when things will change. There’s a lot of stress and anxiety going on, so if you’re feeling it, you are not alone. Even if you don’t think you’re “feeling it,” social isolation can have strange effects.

However, we are a community of supporters. While that has traditionally meant “supporter” of a club, Austin Anthem has never been just about that. We support Austin FC of course, but we also support Austin, we support our communities, and we support each other as members.

Anyone reading this should feel free to reach out and connect. There’s a number of ways to do that:

  • Join the conversation with members of the Austin Anthem Grackle Nest on Facebook
  • Find people to chat and play games together. Join the discussion on our Discord Server for game talk and connect and chat with members while playing Animal Crossing, FIFA, Fortnite, Rocket League, and more.
  • Reach out on social. Add a comment or reply to our Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, or Twitter pages. “Off-topic” might be a term we bench for a bit to help people connect.
  • Go on a mission in support of Austin Together or say “hi” to Hopsquad while picking up a Grack Pack.
  • Record yourself signing along with the Verdinegro video and email it to murga@austinanthem.org for inclusion in a future video.
  • If you want to vent to a kind ear in a less public forum, please drop us a note at together@austinanthem.org. We’ve set-up this email address specifically to go to members of our organizational team and someone will reply with you directly.
  • We’ll be having a member “Happy Hour” over Zoom soon. One in English and one in Spanish. We’ll post details on social and in a member newsletter once we have all the details worked out.
  • If you’re in a good place and looking to help others, post positive content and tag Austin Anthem and use the hashtag #AustinTogether. Look through the above list of links, engage in conversations and replies online, be a voice of empathy, and meet some fellow SG members along the way. You may be helping someone more than you realize and making connections that turn someone’s rough day around.

The most important take-away: Take care for yourselves however you need to and remember that Los Zanates look out for each other and are here for you.

In Verde,

– Josh
