Supporter Members — Help the #AustinBlockchain Collective to Help Yourself

There are around 120 companies in the Austin Blockchain Collective — see the long list here. Most companies are what we call Community members. It’s free to join our community and there are some useful benefits for those willing to put in a bit of work.

For startups that have moved beyond stealth mode, kitchen table mode or “runs well on Powerpoint” mode, the Collective offers Supporter membership and works proactively with Supporters to ensure they benefit from all that the Collective offers.

Truth be told, Supporter membership is probably suitable only for the top 25% of Austin’s blockchain or companies — those that really want to make a success of their endeavors and have a plan (that we can help them create) to do that.

What does being a Supporter member bring a company? The answer is lots but for the sake of brevity here are 5 key benefits:

  • Visibility — we promote your company with lots of branding … on our website, blogs, emails and via thought leadership presentations at our meetups.
  • Alignment — we help to align your company with industry directions, such as blockchain in healthcare, Web 3.0, data ownership/monetization.
  • Collaborations — we introduce companies and nurture early relationships so they can work together on marketing and technical programs.
  • Connections — we put companies in front of potential customers and facilitate business relationships.
  • Engagement — we actively help companies engage with the community via social media, the Collective’s blog and LinkedIn group.

Sounds great doesn’t it? Well to drive home the value of the Collective, these are some highlights of what we’ve delivered for members in the past year …

  • Directly because of a meetup presentation, one member made a customer prospect connection that turned into a $30 million sale!
  • We helped members in the healthcare space collaborate and align with initiatives being led by Dell Medical School and the City of Austin.
  • We introduced a member looking to hire a senior executive to a leading candidate. Time from email intro to first day at work for the executive was 10 business days. Hiring fees — zero.
  • Via our partnership with Capital Factory, we introduced another member to two real sales prospects, which are major companies in the energy and defense industries.
  • We invited several members to meet with organizations visiting Austin from Switzerland, resulting in early collaboration and business development activities.

So, what does being a Supporter member cost? The answer is not much. Here’s the rate sheet:

  • For startups with $1 million or less in revenues during the past 12 months or $1 million or less in funding raised during the past 24 months, the annual fee is $500.
  • Startups with more than $1 million in revenue during the past 12 months or more than $1 million funding raised during the past 24 months, the annual fee is $1,000.
  • Startups with more than $10 million in revenue during the past 12 months or more than $10 million funding raised during the past 24 months, the annual fee is $2,000.

When we say funding, we include equity, debt securities and crypto sources, like ICOs and token sales.

Finally, a word about Patron membership. This is an exclusive member tier that generally involves the Collective working very closely with a company to deliver on specific business projects. This could be related to marketing, business development, partnerships or even technical consulting. Branding visibility aside, Patron activities are usually conducted under NDA and represent a substantial investment in time for the Collective. So we limit the number of Patrons accordingly.

The huge benefit for Patron members —and a key differentiator as opposed to hiring a more traditional consulting or marketing firm — is that Patron members benefit from all of the Collective’s activities and the ecosystem that it showcases, promotes, aligns and connects. It’s a unique approach and one that is cost effective and flexible to meet your specific requirements.
