The Moira Shire in Victoria was denied drought money from the Federal Government grant due to a small technicality that its agricultural employment participation rate was at 16.9%, falling just short of the required 17% for the grant.

The Moira Shire covers the towns of Nathalia, Yarrawonga, Cobram, Numurkah and Tungamah and has farming industries like dairy, summer fruit production, apple and pear growing, vegetables, grains and livestock.

“I feel very sorry for our farming community,” said Moira Shire CEO Mark Henderson.
