Singapore Airlines 777 Business Class Review

This is a quick review of my journey to China with Singapore Airlines in Business Class, flying on the Boeing 777 fleet red eye to Singapore from Brisbane. The trip was originally meant to be with my wife, however, due to a family and visa issue she needed to go before me. I’ve decided to keep this review sweet and simple, taking photos and writing this all from my iPhone. Here are a few thoughts flying in Business with one of my favourite Airlines…


You can fly to China with Singapore Air and Silk Air (both in business) via Singapore for 58,000 KrisFlyer miles and $88 AUD in taxes. There was plenty of availability and when I called to change my booking the support team was really fast and helpful. The stopover for this flight was just 1 hour and 45 minutes, just enough time to put your feet up in the T2 KrisFlyer Silver (or Gold) Lounge.

After a swift check-in process and security, I began my journey with visiting the SilverKris Lounge Located on level two, up the escalators. The lounge overlooks gate 21, (conveniently I boarded for the flight), and the central airport terminal area.

The lounge neat and small, around the same size as Plaza Premium next door. There isn’t any great need for a larger lounge yet, based on the current capacity of the airline from Brisbane. The warm tones, gold fittings, tan leather and soft lighting make this lounge a welcoming and calm environment to relax in and kick your feet up.

There was a well-balanced selection of food and drinks available, with my two favourites — calamari bites and a French Bordeaux; Chateau L’Escart.

The seat:

This 777 configuration had a comfortable 1–2–1 seating layout, which allows plenty of breathing width if you are sitting in a window seat.

Comparing this to Qantas business, their new sky bed is quite impressive in length to sleep, but the general width and feel of the leather Singapore chair wins in my books for all-round comfort. I perched myself right up the back, which was nice to feel secluded. There are lavatories at the back but located in the middle hallway, not directly behind my seat.

There was plenty of foot room, space to throw my bag and accessories. The only downside of the configuration is I couldn’t find the USB charger, and by the end of the flight, I was pondering if it even has one! The Singapore branded noise cancelling earphones are great to throw on if you’re wanting a break from the general noise of the aircraft.
Even though we off at midnight, I kept myself awake for the first few hours to read, eat, and get some work done. Singapore has a decent selection of movies on offer, but they really need to build in a return-to-play feature. I paused a documentary only to later come back and not be able to pick up where I left off. This, however, may be available to the more recent entertainment systems such as found in the A350.


Dinner was simple and light, all you need really for a midnight departure. I had the egg noodles soup with pork dumplings and prawn. The staff are very quick to set your table and bring out the food.

After dinner, I tried a favourite Shiraz from McLaren Vale — which got me ready for sleep! No need for desert, by this time it was1 am and the lights were going out. I never actually had my bed made, I just put my feet up with a pillow and figured it was comfy enough!


Singapore Airlines is always a delight to fly with. Their hospitality, polished brand and product and great rewards program make them a great choice for connecting through South East Asia from Australia.

To top it off, Singapore is a great airport to stop in with easy transfers. I was in the KrisFlyer lounge within 20 minutes after, awaiting my next flight to Kunming. Easy!
