… Number one: don’t buy into the notion that you must starve to be an artist. I think that is a very dated, condescending trope. You don’t have to starve or suffer. We must let go of these old notions that supporting yourself as an artist with other kinds of work means you’re not committing to the art itself. I think it’s quite the opposite. Working to support ourselves as artists is essential to being one. I am many years in the business now because I have been able to support myself and consequently am able to thrive as an artist.

I had the distinct pleasure to talk to Rodney To. Rodney is an actor, professor, and multi-hyphenate originally from Chicago, IL. As an actor, Rodney currently co-stars in Universal/Amblin’s feature film Easter Sunday, the first studio feature film centering around a Filipino American family, starring juggernaut comedian, Jo Koy.
